This story really hit home. I've had quite an experience growing up with an army dad like Arizona. Being the only girl in the family and the eldest was hard cause I didn't really have anyone to turn to. So it was tough to read the part when Arizona was trying to open up about this to Callie. It took me years to be able to talk about the experience openly.

I like that you wrote it such that the Colonel doesn't really approve of Callie. The Colonel on the show definitely dislikes Mark, although he seems fine with Callie, but I can see him think that Arizona's settling by raising a kid her girlfriend had with another man, a man who is still very much in their lives. He would want to protect his daughter from possibly getting hurt if Callie and Mark ever think about taking Sofia away from her.

Good job on this story! It makes me want to find out more about Arizona's history on the show. She is such an interesting and layered character that it's a shame TPTB don't try to explore more of that.

WOW you really blew me away with this, angsty yes but still really excellent! I expected Arizona's story would have something to do with physical discipline, sad of course but not surprising, I was raised very similar and I raise my son very strictly I would never take a wooden ruler to his back but he gets a good kick up the backside if he breaks rules.

What I thought was excellent in this was the fact that her father didn't want her to marry Callie! Good twist really good twist but in some weird way I can understand, because even though Arizona's mother was really good about it all we never actually saw The Colonel talking to Callie or interacting with Sofia and a lot of parents might think their child was settling when it comes down to it, marrying a woman who got knocked up by her BFF who is still very present in their lives and taking that child as your own in some way is setting you up for a very shaky future if the two biological parents one day decide they don't want you...it made me wonder about the Mum, Arizona's mother that is if she held the same opinion

It's not like your Mom - I wasn't quite sure exactly what you meant about this?...You said parents in relation to the harsh words that were said so did you mean for Arizona's mother to be included in her fathers opinion?

Either way a really good piece of work, excellently written - sad yes but still well done and in the end none of it mattered because they love each other and are happy!

So your next fic...can we expect Sexy and Happy now lol

Wow. That was deceptively deep. The tale just pulled you in with humor and then WHAM! And I know why that was so tough for Arizona to get over and to share- no one has the power to hurt you like your kin.

A really interesting chapter, as always you never fail to captivate me with your awesome ability to convey such detail and emotion and such deep thought.

Sounds like Sofia is really at a super annoying stage, I very much remember my own son at that stage and it's frustrating to no end. And everyone deals with it in their own way. I was surprised Callie asked about smacking, and very intrigued at what Arizona isn't saying. I like Callie grew up with a firm hand and a good kick up the backside if rules were broken and I parent the same, I never beat my son but he'll get a kick up the butt if he breaks rules or misbehaves

You're writing has a rhythm resembling the late 19th and early 20th century in the way you order, express and present the words. It's refreshing. :)

Some words or expressions aren't used the same here in the U.S. as you presented so it can give the reader pause, however one can easily translate the intention.

Onto the story itself:

Callie's frustration is well expressed and a common experience for all parents dealing with a toddler.

Seeing Arizona correlate being a mother with her work and the resulting impact is insightful and true to character.

I enjoyed seeing them discuss how to parent and realize the need to include Mark in the conversation and decisions. Not surprised that Sofia as the apple of Daddy's eye has free reign.

I applaud Callie for sensing the underlying emotions and agreeing to step back, not only in the immediate discussion, but in the "no smacking" rule as well.

I look forward to reading about Arizona's background and understanding more about why she feels the way she does.
