Edward came back, and is lost to everyone, including Carlisle. As much as I feel for Jacob, I really feel for Carlisle.

At least they were able to come up with a story to make him feel comfortable - the holding facility.

And you really captured the poignancy of any loss - the time "wasted" because you thought there would be tomorrow - I just had a friend die of cancer last week, and her husband said their last year together had been precious, because they made the most of every moment, they didn't allow distractions.
