Dancing With The Clouds chapter 1 . 10/8/2012 No constructive criticism necessary! Brilliant story! |
Dairi chapter 1 . 5/17/2012 Awwwww mannn the ending made me tear up. xD So sad..everything he knows is gone. Thought it was a nice touch though, adding the things he was familiar with but how even that had changed ever so slightly. I also liked how his mood then lifted at the end, thinking of it as a challenge and, bring it on. Enjoyed reading, good job! |
Michalice W chapter 1 . 12/26/2011 Great story. How fiercely he would mourn Bucky wasn't something I had thought about. While he would miss Peggy - he hadn't known her very long. Bucky was a part of the fabric of his soul - his whole life, which would take so much longer to get over. Wonderful story, thanks. |
KelinciHutan chapter 1 . 12/19/2011 Thank you! I have seen I don't know how many fics where poor Cap has been going through hell at the hands of authors who clearly know nothing about culture shock at all. Having experienced culture shock myself a few times, this fic is the first one that really rings true to me. The things you have particularly nailed are that even with people telling him he would "get it" eventually, Steve still feels like he doesn't fit and that's kind of miserable. 'Cause that really does suck a lot, and even knowing that you'll eventually get to a place where everything doesn't seem so out-of-place, that doesn't always make you feel better "in the moment." The second thing that you got absolutely spot-on is, interestingly, the grocery store. I remember when I first moved back to the US after living overseas, grocery stores were the worst part of my life, so it makes perfect sense to me that Steve would start finding his way into modern life while grocery shopping. Whether Nick would take him shopping is another question. Fury is the director of SHIELD, which makes it fairly unlikely he'd do the grocery shopping for anyone but himself, usually. But I think, the way you have it set up here-as part of an ongoing project to help Steve acclimate to things-it's plausible enough. I didn't think anything of it until you mentioned it in the notes. I really appreciated reading this story. You have dealt thoughtfully and accurately with the experience of culture shock, and after seeing so many people getting it wrong lately, reading this was refreshing. Good job. |
Proponent of EVO chapter 1 . 11/8/2011 I liked it a lot! You obviously did a fair bit of work on this one and it really shows, and I liked the upbeat tone towards the end. Thanks for writing! |
Irish-Brigid chapter 1 . 11/4/2011 They're still selling Barq's? Cool! Gotta love the classics. The flow of the story seems hurried, somehow. I think it has to do with your sentences mostly being long. Not run on, and they're grammatically correct, but there are a lot of long sentences in here. The story itself if great. It would be hard to adjust to everything. lol Maybe Fury knew that there'd be some foods Steve would recognize. Like Rice Krispies (1928, the little mascots were developed in the '30s), Quaker Oats (1901), Aunt Jemima pancake mix (1889), Betty Crocker (1921), wow, there are a lot of really old brands. |
The Red Fedora chapter 1 . 10/19/2011 very bittersweet:) I think Steve is an orphan - I believe he mentioned that both of his parents died during some sort of service to their country - which is why he so desperately wanted to join up. Poor Steve.. |
Angel Starbeam chapter 1 . 10/18/2011 this was great and a little sad, wonderful. |
