Wow, love it
Guest chapter 1 . 3/8/2016
I'm sorry, I know this is quite a late comment, but I had to. :) Excellent job, absolutely breathtaking. Might be the first time I have enjoyed reading first person point of view. Just... Wow.
LBZIP chapter 1 . 2/6/2016
Great story ! So many people are fascinated or haunted by Midnight- me included.
songstar13 chapter 1 . 3/28/2013
Hmmm. Yes, very dark, very true. I think the last few lines really pack a punch. I don't know why, but the fact that even the Doctor didn't know the hostess's name is quite significant, when you really think about it. It's like, he's so different from humans, but when it comes down to it, at the very end, when someone has died to save everyone lives, he didn't know anything more about her than they did.
Whirlwind421 chapter 1 . 11/27/2012
Great story. That last couple lines were to poignant. I really really liked it. Great job!
The-Alizarin-Possum534 chapter 1 . 10/8/2012
For some reason I like this recount post-midnight better than the rest. Nice :)
Jade Mishima chapter 1 . 3/2/2012
I was actually searching Google to see if I could find the song "Diamond Eyes" used in a fan video for Doctor Who on YouTube and instead this fanfic topped the search results. Having been away from for what seems like eons, I decided to give it a quick read.

I have to say, "Midnight" is probably one of my favorite episodes, as it is such a real portrayal of how we work as a species. I think this fanfic captures the Doctor's thoughts and inner turmoil wonderfully. Not only that, I think it captured exactly what all of us were thinking and feeling as we watched this episode. I know the sheer disgust and horror I felt while watching made me wish I could be anything but human at that point in time. Great job and keep writing. You definitely have a talent with words! :)

My favorite line: A brittle silence descended.

My least favorite line: I shuddered to think about what would have happened if they'd found out for certain that I really am an alien. (You went from past tense to present tense, which throws the whole line out of sorts. At least, I think that's the problem with it. Haven't reviewed in a while, remember!)
powerstaark chapter 1 . 12/16/2011
This is a very good story. You're description about how the Doctor felt when he realised how dark humans can be was excellent. It also shows that, despite being over nine hundred years old, the Doctor still learns new things.

I've seen Midnight a few times and I don't remember Dee Dee ever agreeing with the other humans about murdering the Doctor and Sky. If I remember correctly she was the only person, including the hostess before her sacrifice, who was on the Doctor's side throughout the whole experience. However it's been a while since I've seen the episode so it is possible that I might be mistaken.

I thought that you ended the story very well. The Doctor realised that it would be hypocritical of him to berate the humans about not knowing the hostess' name because he didn't know it himself.
Serenity's Lady chapter 1 . 12/9/2011
I read this story a while ago but never wrote a review. Having been immersed in the "Midnight" story recently while writing my own (soon to be uploaded) take in the aftermath of that day, I had to come back and tell you how much I enjoyed this piece.

I agree; "Midnight" is one of my favorites, but it is still hard to re-watch. It was so raw and emotionally draining. My only regret is that we never got to see more of the Doctor and Donna alone. The last 3 episodes were a cacophany of companions and crises, and then we lost Donna forever.
Mythopoeia chapter 1 . 10/19/2011
"Bad way to go, radiation poisoning. Take it from experience." -Is that irony I see? Fantastic.

"No other species in the Universe reacted so violently to fear." -I really like this line. It's chilling.

And the ending is just perfect. His 'One last parting shot' turning against him right at the end there. Beautifully done.
