I like how you portray John in this. There's no doubt that he was a fucked up parent, but he had layers and there's nothing interesting in demonizing (ha ha, a pun!) or exonerating John. This drabble makes John accessible.

That's a point of view I would never have thought to see Sam's destiny from. What a terrible thing for a parent to know, and I csn just see John slumped over a bar, brooding on it.

Aw Tif, I love it! John fighting with that knowledge, with himself - not knowing what to do, but knowing his boy, "... not going to be content to being a foot soldier" :-/ Yeah, that's Sammy. And the last line? So John. Thanks for bringing him back for a short while :-)
