This works well as a one-shot, and it would also have worked as a full story. It’s good

A very well written story from both a technical view and an emotional one.

I like it! A story where Rapunzel needed no saving from the physical tower but needed one from idea of it instead..

My favorite part is the line "That was back before all his talk about "doing the right thing," and "where she was meant to be," and "getting her the help she needed."" It so elegently shows that this Eugene has already had his personal transformation. He's a good guy. He's fallen in love with Rapunzel and worked/is working on becoming a better person for her. The story is about Rapunzel so it can't spend a lot of time developing this Eugene. On the other hand, the reader has to believe that Eugene is a genuinely good guy who wants what's best for Rapunzel, or the whole thing is just horrifying and creepy. This line accomplishes that so effectively and so efficiently that it blows me away. Bravo.

I am left wondering why they didn't sell the crown and just live on the road. If she wants the ability to get away when she needs to, poverty is quite an obstacle. I can't imagine Flynn having too many objections to going with. Ah well. Throwing the crown into the ocean is certainly more dramatic.

It was good, no matter if I feel confused or not. And, truthfully, feeling confused is better than feeling like I shouldn't have read it, so... Yeah.

I don't like this. Yeah, it's effective at stirring up the reader's emotions and well done from a technical standpoint, but this reader doesn't want these emotions stirred up. I don't like whiny heroines with self-destructive tendencies and who kiss the guy because neither fight or flight does it for them and they can't think of anything better. It's really shitty escapism. Yeah, Rapunzel of all people is justified in being screwed up after what she went through, but still - it doesn't do it for me. Guess I'm just not your target audience or something.

I read "What You Don't Know" in full for the second time yesterday after having read it when you were writing it. I had no idea you had written other Tangled fics and that makes me extremely happy. I truly loved this story and wish it was longer! I like this slightly AU tale that's a little darker and dirtier than Disney.

I've always wondered what would happen if Rapunzel found out she was the lost princess but never gave that much thought and did something other than return to the castle because hey, she's been locked up in a tower for eighteen years and there are just some things you can't fix. Brownie points for making this a tad more realistic than those happy Rapunzel-is-welcomed-back-and-everything-is-alright-with-Eugene

When I first started reading this, I thought it was an AU of sorts with the Trapped Princess and the Dashing Thief having switched to the Bored Prince and the Something-To-Prove Thief. Though it wasn't that, it was still enjoyable. But now I want to read a story where their roles are switched, haha.

I absolutely love your twist on this fic. It's not only heavy, but it's also very realistic and interesting. It would make much sense if Rapunzel didn't want to go back and claim her place in the throne, and I love the fact that Eugene was both there and at the same time confused with his feelings for her.
