Reviews for Impressions
NAAC29 chapter 1 . 8/17/2016
Thank you for the story :)

I liked the idea of having commissioned pieces to remember those fallen in the war, and of course Snape deserves to have his picture hanging together with the other former-headmasters.

If you haven't already read it, you might be interested to know more about how J.K. Rowling thought that the portraits worked: ( writing-by-jk-rowling/hogwarts-portraits).

Perfect!
ShadowofaMan chapter 1 . 12/30/2011
I realize that this was published some three months ago, but I couldn't resist throwing in a review.

It is simply marvelous. Both the plot and your skills as a writer are excellent, and I must applaud you for your portrayal of all the characters. They are beautifully and believably done, so much so that I almost believed myself to be reading a "lost chapter" in the ending of Deathly Hallows.

Though there are many fictions about post-Battle Hogwarts, and even of the fashioning of a portrait for Snape, I believe your work to be the better (dare I say best?) of its breed. It reaches for so much more than simply offering catharsis for Harry and company; It memorializes who Snape -really- was. It is something that I can truly believe Harry (and Luna) doing, especially in view of the former's "enlightenment" of Snape's character.

Really, a greater deal of my pleasure in this fiction comes not from the subject matter but rather from your ability as a writer. The text is, to my untrained and half-blind eye, very well-written. There were no typos or jarring mistakes, which in turn meant that I was able to read without distraction. The story was very fluid and moved well without feeling rushed, too, and I must give applause once more to you for that.

I would love to offer some constructive criticism, but I fail to see where the story could be improved. It is, to me, one of the best fictions I have had the pleasure of reading as of late. Thank you very much for writing it!

Eagerly awaiting your next work,

ShadowofaMan

Snape was a really good character.
JMF chapter 1 . 12/4/2011
This was absolutely beautiful. The character explorations were fresh and insightful and the tribute to Professor Snape was subtle and pulled on my heart. I wish I could say this more eloquently, I think it is one of the most wonderful pieces I have read on this site, and the ending was particularly poignant. Thank you for a gorgeous story.

I really like the interaction between Harry and Luna, as well as the length they go to honour Snape. The last two sentences about Snape really tugs at my heart. I'm of two minds more the description of the portrait: 1) it's just the right amount for our imagination - and the details are expertly chosen; 2) the length of the description isn't enough to do tribute to Snape.
Hippothestrowl chapter 1 . 9/23/2011
Good to see something different. It's nicely written and complete in itself but for me it felt a bit 'unexciting' at the end. It doesn't say 'complete' in the summary but I'm assuming it's finished. Must be.

Perhaps it would have worked better if it were a little longer and 'cleverly' intertwined with some other story thread that all comes together at the end, eg, maybe Snape (presumably this is a talking portrait) might reveal something that concludes the other story thread. That would have raised it to a higher level and still included the 'completeness' with another 'completeness' to make a really great story with more wow factor. My ten cents. Well done anyway; it is what it is. Ah - I see it was done as part of a writing challenge so presumably it fits that brief well and may even have had a time limit. Take no notice of my comments; they were just my, ahem... impressions. :)

This is beautiful. It affected me more than I thought it would, and I love the concept. It makes so much sense - Luna and painting and the fact that Luna would understand, would want to understand. I can tell that a lot of thought went into the writing, so thanks because this is a really great little vignette.

Awww. Touching story :-)
22Moons chapter 1 . 9/8/2011
I LOVED this! It was beautiful and subtle, moving without being sentimental. It was an absolutely fitting tribute to Severus Snape.
Dr. Platypus chapter 1 . 9/7/2011
This is a very nice tribute to Snape, and to Harry's ability to grow in his perception of his old Potions master. Thanks for sharing. And no, I don't think Snape would thank anyone for so invading his privacy :-)
StarGazer451 chapter 1 . 9/7/2011
WOW! This is amazing, it's so moving and I loved the idea of Severus using petals to mark pages in his book :) Also, another idea i truly loved is the mural of the deceased Order and DA members.
