It would be interesting to have Virgil think that Scott's dead (supposedly at Belah's hand) and he 'turns back to normal' and he and his brothers head for home in grief, forcing Scott to find his own way home to stop Virgil from carrying out the rest of Belah's commands in time.

But then, isn't that potion supposed to have worked? Does it take awhile to kick in? Does Virgil finally get his revenge on Belah?
