How old is Sam in this story?

BEAUTIFUL! It really helps to see why Sam wanted a safer life. I feel selfish, but I'm glad he left it behind. Thank you for your wonderful story!

Ooh, this was so sad for Sam but I totally loved this. Interesting monster, and it makes a lot of sense that Sam would have something like this in his history that made him so desperate to want to get away. I mean, not that the hunting life wasn't awful for a kid, but to have something like this happen would definitely be the final straw. Loved the voices/characterization, too, and there was fabulous tension all throughout!

CHAPTER 3: The whole time i was reading the cave part, I just kept on remembering the horror movie, the Descent, you should watch it if you haven't. Goooooood writing.

I enjoyed the story! A few specific things I liked:

1. The fun beginning - I thought he was fighting a monster at first.

2. The way you showed John's unfair expectations - criticizing both Sam and Dean.

3. Sam's mental response to Victoria's comment of "We can't live in fear": "Why not? I do."

4. Dean's answer to Sam's complaint about normal parents not constantly warning their kids about the danger of getting killed

5. Sam unintentionally hurting Dean by saying he wants to make something of his life

It really makes sense Sam wanting safe so much after this.

Wow! Great story. I loved the interaction with Sam and John. Exactly how I picture their relationship when Sam was 17. I was on the edge of my seat by the second chapter. Well done!

Wonderful story, great MOTW, fantastic plot and awesome Sam whumpage. Awesome too how you had Dean find Sam's letter. Brilliant characterisation throughout as always and this story is another definite fave.

I'm not normally keen on pre-series stories, but I enjoyed this one. Thanks for writing!
