At the end, I couldn't help but wonder if Alfred - the human, I'm thinking? - will eventually find out that Canada is well, a nation, and how he would take that. And that he's pretty much America.

That was stunning and heart wrenching. It was captivating from beginning to end and an ache settled in my chest as I read. The emotional tone your writing style sets is so vivid and real that I could almost feel the shattering that Matthew and Alfred felt in their own respective ways.

This is just...beautiful. I can't find any other words to describe it. You captured their pain so well, and the 2nd person point of view really added to the effect. And that last sentence just left me with this feeling of a kind of sadness, but joy at the same time that in a sense, Matthew and Alfred found each other again.

That was so beautiful! I love how you portrayed Matthew! You didn't make him such a damsel! And his relationship with Alfred was so pure and simple yet so lovely because they knew that needed each other to survive! And that wouldn't have it any other way!
