That Hilarious Light chapter 13 . 5/2 Sorry for writing a second review - but I couldn't resist writing something special about this chapter. What I really like about "Dreams" is that most other "Flipped" fanfiction writes about the love between lovers, which is great, but only "Dreams" describes friendship-love so beautifully. That familiar affection and solid trust - as comfortable and contented as a kitten taking a nap in its usual spot in an old, friendly church - I love it. You write the friendship between Juli and Bryce in more depth than anyone else does, and the love that characterises their relationship just goes that much deeper. I just adore this chapter. |
That Hilarious Light chapter 21 . 5/1 I love this and I earnestly hope you continue it. You take everything that's best about "Flipped" and develop it into a both natural and unexpected sequel. "Flipped"'s he-said / she-said device is perfect for the plot theme of Bryce's unspoken love for Juli. "Flipped"'s moral was to look beneath the surface of a person; but in "Dreams" this moral is put to the test, as Juli knows that Adams is not a good person but still falls for him, and also she can't understand what her best friend is thinking even as she tries so hard. Both Bryce and Juli have grown and changed, even as they remain the Bryce and Juli we know and love. Bryce, the "coward" from "Flipped" who hurt Juli's feelings so many times, has developed into someone with a strong sense of responsibility, co-captain of his soccer team, someone Juli's dad can trust, and a true friend to Juli (even though he remains as introverted as ever). Juli was practically perfect in "Flipped", but in "Dreams" our heroine - although just as intelligent, passionate, and caring - is weaker, more vulnerable, and more ... normal (where's that bold, singing tomboy that carried chickens around with her?). Her courage is less confident and more hidden, but we still catch glimpses of it, and we love her as much as ever. We love and appreciate Bryce and Juli's beautiful friendship, even as we hope it develops into something more. The other characters from 'Flipped': Chet is no longer the fount of all wisdom, and as he takes a backseat, Bryce and Juli have to learn (and have learned) to solve their own problems; Lyn is given more dialogue, and is developed into a very interesting character with wildness and sanity intermingled; we appreciate Mrs. Loski as someone who is trying to do the best of a hard job. The pain of divorce, which is merely touched on in "Flipped", is developed in agonising detail in "Dreams". Adams is a terrifying new character. I love how you made him perfect on the outside, a mom-pleaser. Initially he seems harmless enough, except as a rival to Bryce; but now he seems positively sinister. I physically dread whatever he has in store for Juli and hope to God that she escapes from his schemes. Ashley looks interesting. Since you say she has quite a large role to play later, I look forward to seeing what that is. You are a master of emotions. I feel your characters' hope, dread, anger, fury, helplessness, happiness, regret, sadness. Words - words that are designed to hurt, words that are designed to hide, and casual words that often don't mean much and sometimes mean a lot, and earnest words (or, more often, looks) that express so much that the listener struggles to understand. Wickedness - that kind of wickedness that delights in mocking good things. Friendship, and love, in the little things. I wish I could see that photograph too. Now that you've made us hopelessly invested in the fates of Juli, Bryce and all, you've just got to finish the story (and pleaseeee don't let Juli get hurt too much, it would be like a rock in my heart). I look forward to the next chapter. |

barcastaff chapter 21 . 5/24/2019 I can see how your writing evolves over the years. This is really a quite brilliant read, and I sincerely hope that you're going to continue and see this through. I saw you mentioned that the updates have bern scarce since it's harder to get in the characters' heads anymore because of other things you wrote, and I see what you mean. But then again, as a reader and a friend to a few writers(in other fandoms as well as original fiction), I can tell you how refreshing it is to read a story that is so freshly scented and pure, even though I prefer fast-paced, adventure themed stories better. And writing fics with different themes could also potentially be of great benefit to the writer. Colouring different characters with words would improve your skill of characterisation by quite a bit, and the ability would be useful to the writer in the long run. At this stage as a reader, I can feel the pace of the story picking up, and I can sense that you are building up to something quite significant. Maybe you do not feel the same urge and passion in regards to this fandom anymore, or simply inspiration isn't striking you at the moment. It's your story, and it's your right to take all the time in the world between updates. It's just that I would hate to see such beautiful premise going to waste, and as a selfish reader, I am eagerly anticipating what's next. This isn't a sizeable fandom, so sadly I fear there won't be much appreciation to your brilliance. I wish my comment could at least act as a petrol pump and give you a little fuel for the next part of the journey :p Hope life is treating you well, and cheers for delivering us this great piece of literature. |
Narnia chapter 21 . 4/16/2019 Love it, with a passion |

Elvire chapter 21 . 12/31/2018 More, more, more. Pretty please more. What is Jeremy Adam's dastardly plan? Will Bryce make up with his father? How much longer can Juli be so obtuse to Bryce's feelings? I want to know it all and only you can tell me. Thanks for all you have written so far, Please update soon. |
Elvire chapter 17 . 12/31/2018 Oooooo I am worrying about Adams intentions but most all I am worrying about where the last update ends on (dear lord don't let it be a cliffhanger) and if you will be writing more of this marvelous fic. |
Elvire chapter 15 . 12/31/2018 After reading a fic by Attica I thought I would peruse Flipped fanfic and have been delighted to find this little gem. You are right, it is much darker, but still does not fall out of the universe that is plausible for these characters. It like when you watch a movie as a child, all rosy cheeked and full of innocence. You miss the allusions to unsavoury characters or even outright misinterpret actions through your own lense of naivety. This is the world that an older (though perhaps not wiser) Juli and Bryce see. I wish Juli could better see Bryce's feelings. And I read on hoping that the Bryce or Juli can comprehend even the most dark of teenage boys intentions to avert the disaster I sense is looming. Dear author I am in awe of your talent. |
