In hank/Alex pairing i like to imagine hank taking the serum because he thought Alex think him as a freak when hank think the nickname as an endearment and might be pulling his pigtail. I won't call Alex an orphan. His parent was kill by soldiers according to the comic but he was adopted. he has a loving parent and a sister
