OlogyFF101 chapter 1 . 3/29/2017 wow, that was really well written! |
KaiMesser chapter 1 . 4/26/2015 While it was sad, it was really amazing and skilful to read! I really enjoyed this, well done you! Laura X |
scrubly-degrassily-everlarkily chapter 1 . 11/6/2011 So good. Amazingly written, clever and emotionally filled to the brim. I enjoyed every one of their hellish 26 minutes. :D |
Exangeline chapter 1 . 10/14/2011 Why do you fail, ? Sorry for the messiness. I intended it to be a lot more tastefully done. Indeed, it was like that in the word document. *wibble* Stupid formatting. If you would like a review you can actually READ, just PM me and I'll send you an e-mail with the word document. |
Semaphora chapter 1 . 10/14/2011 Amazing. This story is absolutely, unequivocally, unquestionably, astoundingly brilliant. I love everything about it, including how artlessly you presented the entire thing. It was all: “I like this pretty kickass author, so I’m going to give it a shot.” But you didn’t just give it a shot, you blew straight through it, your every word beaming with energy, allowing the story to become something more than itself in a beautiful, agonising play on words. Creativity just doesn’t cut it with your work, you constantly surprise me with your innovation and cunning. To the point where I can’t even think, I’m just staring at the computer with stunned awe at the beauty drawn out across the screen. I don’t really know what to say, don’t even know how to write, really. Instead, I’m dreamily staring into the distance a lot like J D when he’s daydreaming about something utterly mundane. Everything about this is perfect, even the subject matter despite how endlessly heartbreaking it is for me to read it. Every line, every verse, every letter had me entranced to the point where I wouldn’t even have noticed if somebody came up at threw me out of my chair. Finally, I came to the letter Z and, without fail, I felt like I was going to faint from the stunning imagery, the pain and the finality of it all. God, I could relate to JD so well. The shock and the grief that he felt was palpable, and it was clear you went to great lengths to make it so. The haunting prose and strong characterisation hit me first, followed by how very hard it must have been to write such a harrowing story in a format that would have fought you every step of the way. I certainly couldn’t do it myself, not in a story as comprehensive and intelligent as this one, nor with the innovation to use such an idea in such a way in the first place. While JD is usually the needy one I found the way Perry jumped from emotionless to emotional to be just the right thing for this story. At the very heart of it all, knowing that they had been together in a serious relationship only for Perry to keep true to his track record of ruining every good thing in his life kind of made me want to take a knife to his throat. But only just. I still love his character, after all, even if I lost all respect for him during this story. Leaving all that aside, however, he never lied to JD, which was one consolation. Lying is the worst, keeping secrets behind tight lips never works out well for anybody, especially if it’s a secret that is likely to hurt somebody. Maybe I’m a bit jaded, but in my experience, it’s usually better to make yourself take a stand and sever all ties, exactly like JD did. I myself have done a bit of both, there have been times where I managed to salvage things between us, and others where my efforts were useless. I was never the one who lied, and my struggle was an internal one. It’s of no consequence, however, I’m just rambling on here about nothing. I think I’ll bring it back to the story since I’m not really making much sense here. Obviously I’m not as naturally talented as your dear self, as I’m unable to orchestrate such a fine play of words and actually obtain any semblance of a plot. Or, in this case, a review. Perhaps I should stop, but I’m pretty much halfway through the alphabet now and I couldn’t put it down if I tried. I think it’s time that I properly comment on the prose and its properties and how pretty the writing was, the flow of the piece and it’s positives. I can’t find any negatives, which is quite the norm with your work. (Not being able to find any negatives, mind you, not the negatives themselves quite the tounge-twister, eh?) Really, though, everything is perfect to the nth degree. Reading this for the second and third time, I find myself in less of a blind rage at Perry, because regardless of the subject matter, it’s still a robust, entertaining and utterly astounding piece. There’s not much else I can say about it besides that. Even the secondary characters were strong in this story, especially Carla with her seriously pissed but sympathetic disposition. Her conversation with Perry rang so true to the way they are written in the series that it made me smile despite myself. You really know how to make those two shine when written together. There’s so much more I’d love to say about this, but I’m struggling with the style of this review. It’s another testament to how truly amazing your writing skills are that you’re able to weave such an intricate story while facing such difficulty. I admit that I’ve never read one of David Leviathan’s books, but I’ll definitely check him out the next time I find myself in a bookstore with time and money to spare. It’s absolutely unreal how you manage to do this. From arguments to scene changes to unfathomable depths of emotion, unseen punches and urgency emphasised in every word. Very impressive, to say the least, and visually intriguing to boot. This is without a single flaw, or word out of place. While Perry cheated on JD with Jordan, it was still achingly clear that he cared about him with every fibre of his being and in a way that makes it all the more sad, considering JD’s last words to Perry on the roof. X marks the spot indeed, JD. You’re a living embodiment of all that is talented. You’re also a bit mean, as you’ve managed to make me feel both enraged at and sorry for Perry at the same time; yearning for the two of them to get back together while yielding to the thought that what happened, while a terrible mistake, was also the end of their youth and their innocence. I can’t blame you though, as I’m pretty positive I’ve put you through the ringer with my characters as well. I know it doesn’t mean much, considering how long you and the others have had to wait (it probably feels like years, doesn’t it?) but there’s a chapter of My Trigger coming your way in a few weeks. And now, at long last, I’ve come to the letter Z. I haven’t really thought of any zany little words to polish of this review, and zero pretty much sums my coherent thought count right now. Xerox is spelt with an X, not a Z, despite the fact that it sounds like it’s said “zerox”. I guess that is pretty zany, despite its complete lack of relevance. Perhaps I should add a foreign dialect so “the” becomes “ze”, and “this” becomes “zis”, which might make it easier to leave you with some parting words. Here goes: Ze story was very well written, I am looking forward to ze sequel, even if it has nothing to do with ze plot of this one. It is on zis note that I finish zis review and bit you farewell. Zis has been an amazing journey, despite ze depressing ending. I think you are single-handedly ze most talented author I have met. Your innovation is unparalleled, as is your passion to write. Ze Scrubs fandom is very lucky to have you, Bells. Zis author is heading towards your other stories! Expect some reviews to ze many other amazing stories that I have yet to read and comment on. Believe me when I say that zis was not because I didn’t want to review, it was simply ze astounding amount of life events that piled up. But life is a little slow, so off I go! - Ex PS. Yes, I really did just end that with a rhyme. I hope this review, as silly and off-topic as it was, brings some cheer into your super-hectic schedule. Also, I hope more than ever that you're doing alright over there. Let me know if you need any author-ly support. I'm always here. :) |
Blankingnull chapter 1 . 8/12/2011 Holy Frickin' Hell, this was a goddamn masterpiece. You know...people like you writing fics like this is so discouraging to crap-writers like me. ;) You did a brilliant job, the characterizations were insanely spot-on. Sad ending, even when I reached Y I was hoping there was some way to make it all better. There just weren't enough letters to make it right. PD |
sams chapter 1 . 8/2/2011 Love it! |
Guest chapter 1 . 7/11/2011 WOW! i was going to stupidly review that you must have messed up posting this somehow because of the weird way the sentences are. THEN I REALIZED THE ABC THING I SEE WHAT U DID THERE that was awesome the alphabet thing is such a unique way to write a fic/poem. this was really awesome! i cant believe it took me two read-throughs to understand the alphabet thing with the sentences. im so stupid lol. this was great! angsty, but great! |
Graffiti2DMyHeart chapter 1 . 7/11/2011 *grumbles* Making me come out of my lurker status... Hey Bells! Long time no chat. Ah but we both know how life is. I've stopped drawing so much, especially Scrubs. And you...well you continue to update. ; I never review anymore, officially becoming a shadow on this site. DARN YOU. Okay, enough of the idle chatter... onward to your story review! ~Faust's Magical Review 8D~ I read your AU and thought that there would be an Alphabet theme... but I dind't realize it until Z of what you did. xD I was like, "OH SNAP!" and had to re-read the entire story. What TALENT. Being able to write this...just brilliant. I have to agree with you on the ending. If this ever happened, JD would probably never forgive Perry. I can't really see any other ending. It's so nice to see more Scrubs ff from you. Especially my OTP. (Now and forever) You know I never read My Captain part 2? (Sorry, I cannot rightly recall it at the moment...I guess I'm saving it for a special moment when I really wanna read an excellent Scrubs story... *sighs* Agains Bells. A true Masterpiece you have got here. I miss reading your fics and this was truely a pleasure... Hope to see more from you soon. Don't be a stranger! Faust |
darkorangecat chapter 1 . 7/9/2011 To say that I love this wonderfully creative, and wholly entertaining poem, would be an understatement. This was a joy to read, and had me rereading portions because I was caught up in the words. I am already contemplating attempting such a thing, I thought sestinas were difficult, but this might be a tad more challenging form of poetry. One line that I liked in particular, is: "...the sky as unclear as his conscious." - an excellent simile which showed, not only the state of mind that Perry was in, and the actual setting, but also the atmosphere of this entire piece - heavy, and overcast. Marvelous work of art. :) |
banjkazfan chapter 1 . 7/8/2011 A challenge for sure, but one you took on and did with flying colors. It's depressing but I agree that there's really no other way it could end. This one is one of your better ones, I think, simply because of how you challenged yourself. I still strive to be able to write the characters the way you do, in their high points and low points. I hope to see more from you - maybe a bit happier next time :) But as your drama is written well, I'm not complaining. Good to see more from you! |
Tell Her This chapter 1 . 7/8/2011 It's good to see you back, Bells! I hope Europe was everything you were looking for. Were you on the main continent? I also have to apologise; you sent me a PM a couple of months ago which I COMPLETELY forgot to reply to. The short version of the story is my mum had been seriously ill and between my mum's condition and college work and exams, everything else went out of my mind. Thankfully, normality has returned and my mum is on the mend. So I profusely apologise for forgetting to reply to you, but I hope you understand. With that out of the way, on to the review. :) Being honest, I had to read this a couple of times to get used to get the format. Once I had, I actually really enjoyed it. As I've said before, I don't generally enjoy reading JD/Cox pairing. What I really did like was the role reversal. You'd expect, under normal circumstances, for JD to be emotionally needy one of the two, but here he's the one with all the power. The ending was depressing, yes, but as you said there was never going to be a good ending to this situation for them. You have no idea how happy I was at Turk punching Perry. God knows he deserved it. It's exactly what you'd expect Turk to do to him. In fact all the characters were, well, in character which is highly impressive with the format of the story. I'm also in awe of how you can get such real emotions in such a contrived format. I actually haven't heard of David Levithan but I think I'll need to check some of his work out. :) I'm really looking forward to whatever you decided to write next. :) Forgive me for asking, but did you at some point during My Voyage mention the possibility of there being a third part to the My Captain series? I was thinking about those stories the other day and thought I'd ask. |
Black-Dragon1003 chapter 1 . 7/8/2011 I love David Levithan, and I love what you did here. It was horribly sad, but fit perfectly well, and I think that's exactly the proper characterization and actions for these characters if they were in this situation. |
