What kills me Edward only saw what he wanted to see where James is concerned. What made Edward think that James would be any different with him then he was with other people. Because he blew smoke up Edwards ass and he believed it. I guess he was desperate to feel and believe something after the shit Jane put him through. His ego and self worth took a major hit with her. He said in the beginning 3 years of therapy and still.

What I want to know how did James know of Bella and Alice when there in Junior High?

There is a difference in needing, caring and loving someone. I do not believe she loved Garrett in the way he wanted her to. I think that is why Garrett tried pushing her to admit it. Yes, she loved him as a good friend would. She was never in love with him. He blurred those lines not her. It's on him! He had to make her need him above all else the rest would come later. Fool! it backfired

He needed the beat down so he could live with himself for the destruction he brought to this family. No matter the mind games and what ever he needs to tell him to sleep at night. He fell for her hard, he had to make her doubt herself and question her own feelings for him.
