Love this story before SNBH! I wish they could have stayed together that way. She was so understanding of his being late because of work in canon. I love how they resolve his missing Aaron's birthday without a major misunderstanding and fight. He still felt guilty, even though he tried to save the life of a child and she felt guilty after he finally told her the reason why. It's a perfect recipe for their relationship to work out if other things didn't happen, if he didn't feel the pull of the island.
