if I were Cory that there's a lot more room for suspending disbelief in a fantacy move like the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise than in a romance semi realistic movie like The Notebook

Please update us a message whether this story will still progress or not. Tbh you have nothing to worry about if you plan on ending the story here, it's still reasonable.
