Reviews for Conversations with Fire
Dodhanta chapter 1 . 8/28/2017
I think i prefer this ending. I hoped for something like this in the movie as well. This literally made me cry. Thanks.
Dawn on fire chapter 1 . 12/31/2014
I liked your ending MUCH better than the cannon one. It's nice how you show their dynamic relationship and that Gothel is shown as a round character.
Wordmangler chapter 1 . 2/1/2014
I definitely agree that the way Gothel was treated in the movie was shabby. Looking at how amazingly well-adjusted Rapunzel was after a lifetime in that tower, Gothel did an incredible job as mother. Sure, she was egotistical and put down Rapunzel, acting more like a big sister than a mother in some ways, but how many mothers would go on a three-day journey *on foot* for paint for their daughter's birthday?

I am not so sure Gothel would have left a letter like that, myself. But I do like the sentiments you evoke. "Why didn't you tell me that you would die if I left?" Exactly. That could have changed everything, given Rapunzel a genuine dilemma.
Guitar Amateur chapter 1 . 12/28/2013
I don't think that Gothel would have done this... but this ending is much more realistic. And it was sad... and I like it, because I'm not going "Huh? Inconsistency?" like I had at the "Rupunzel's hair is cut... and so Gothel suddenly ages into dust?"

And also, I had been quite upset at Rupunzel's hair being cut, truthfully. It had been so useful.
Zepyhr-of-Shadows chapter 1 . 11/2/2011
I... actually liked this ending MUCH more than Tangled's original... redeption for Gothel just seems to... fit, so much better than her rapid-aging-and-sudden-death thing...

I mean, she did say some pretty mean things to Rapunzel during the movie, and that "Mother Knows Best" song was just. Creepy! But... most of the movie I couldn't help but feel sorry for Gothel, considering that her flower was stolen first, she devoted her life to that flower and the Kingdom used it up to save the queen... and she truely tried to keep Rapunzel with her family with the whole lock of hair cutting thing...

I guess if the animators had decided not to show those scenes first, I wouldn't be as receptive to this end as I am, but they did, and I find this poignent and kinda... sweet in a way...

In short, I liked it :D Please keep writing, I'd be very interested in anything more you'd have to write in the Tangled 'verse
Punzie the Platypus chapter 1 . 10/17/2011
That was very good! Even though I liked the other ending better, it was more dramatic and she died so she made all of us Gothel haters happy, and yet I don't hate her, not really. She is a person you love to hate. Gothel and Rapunzel's relationship is a complicated and delicate thing, isn't it? Did Rapunzel end up with Eugene? Cause I do so hope that they got married.

Here, have a well deserved cookie and please come and R&R my stories!
fukuji mihoko chapter 1 . 9/30/2011
Aww, I love this fic _; These were exactly the same thoughts I had when watching Rapunzel. They really built Mother Gothel up into somebody who was a lot more dimensional than the standard 'villain', and I liked her mother/daughter relationship with Rapunzel- and then at the end they just said 'screw it, she's evil, she dies and everybody is happy.'

I think this version is a lot more realistic _;
Phantom Parasol chapter 1 . 8/26/2011
This is how the movie should have ended! Great job!
AlleluiaElizabeth chapter 1 . 8/9/2011
I truly wish the movie had gone something like this. I just have such a hard time believing Gothel really felt no love for Rapunzel, a girl she'd raised and fed and bought all those paints for. It should have effected her like you have here. This was an excellent twist on events.
morbus-rus chapter 1 . 7/9/2011
Sweet. Sad. Heartwrenching. I think that ending is much more plausible. And I love your Gothel, i think she deserves much more forgiveness and understanding than she's got.
Lulu chapter 1 . 6/20/2011
That was really beautiful, very emotional for me at the end. I wish the movie would have ended more like your story. I too found the movie ending laking.
Guest chapter 1 . 6/16/2011
Been thinking about something akin to this for a while, and you capture the relationship between them very well. My appreciation for a well realized story.
bStormhands chapter 1 . 6/16/2011
That was amazing. I felt for both of them.

Do I think Gothel could have done that? No.

But you make a great case. Great work.

Gothel/Rapunzel is the most powerful relationship we've ever seen in a Disney film, there is a lot of room to explore.

Hate and forgiveness too. That's part of what my story is about, not to brag or promote but because it is such a powerful part of Tangled, even if they didn't talk about it directly which is really sad.

Thank you
