Reviews for Flying Without Wings
Gleas chapter 2 . 5/8/2015
Very fine specimen of Drapple! Or is it Draplery?
abe1234 chapter 2 . 2/17/2014
Hi Yen.

So I couldn't resist reading something more from you today, and this seemed like a nice length. I was surprised to read that this is your first HP fic. It is so good!
So firstly the whole idea of an 8. year and a drarry story is not by any means new - but damn, I am glad I still read this story!

I first read the Dormiscere by Sara Holmes and I can clearly see your inspiration, even tough, you manage a separate story of your own.
Chapter 1: Just reading the introduction is so smooth and detailed and it just drag you in, almost in an intoxicating way, so that you have to see what happens. I love the details and there is a perfect balance on which things you should focus more deeply on and what to just fly hastily over. It is really a rather invisible line, but that is what makes the true difference of a well written story and an average story where you sense the emotions and the story but not truly feel it. You got it so right girl!
The whole dialog is brilliant! I love the way that you change from longer parts from Harrys point of view, to shorter from Dracos point of view. The way that you both describe their actions, dialog and inner reflections brings an intimity into the story, making you almost feel like you are there.
So, back to the story *don't mind my rambling...* And then, just for a second, you completely surprised me, when Harry sweeps Draco off the ground on his Firebolt! What the hell does he think he is doing? This will never end in anything good and how is only two chapters suppose to fix that? *takes a deep breath* but then, everything makes sense, so much sense. My heart went out for scared Draco and for strong Harry and warms at the though of that handshake and at that long-but-not-long-enough hug that turns everything around afterwards. Wow, so much emotions and feeling in so few words! Just makes me speechless!
And then Harry surprises, being the one blurting about have missed out on the opportunity of friendship as well and wanting it as well...

Chapter 2:
I was almost tripping in anticipation of how you continue from where you ended. But you do it with such grace and timing on who to follow.
Draco, his new cologne, his thoughts about his mother, Theo not saying anything...
The unspoken words between Draco and Harry of mutual agreement on getting time alone, to get to know each other, was beautiful and spot on. it reminded me of myself a few years ago, wanting to seal a newly acquired friendship, and the uncertain feeling on whether the want is mutual. That is almost the hard part about not being in school anymore, since you really have to take a leap in faith when meeting people under surprising circumstances - and wanting to make it more than a brief encounter.
This chapter clearly demonstrate a balance, giving us uncertainties from both young men (Dracos fear of flying and Harrys fear of the knife), hurt (Harrys past with the Dursleys and Dracos hard childhood) and a mutual desire in friendship and love.
The lunch and the first true conversation of their friendship perfect - not rushed, but natural.
And then the apple... *roll my eyes and smirk* that was just delicious and sweet...*almost blush at the feeling of eavesdropping on something so private, sensual and knowing it is something I am not suppose to be a part of* I can almost feel the hexes coming my way for even glancing in their direction.
And the open end, is just perfect. A lot of really good short stories are ruined by the need to fulfill and complete, where showing the lovely couple the path is merely enough.

*signs deeply and think it is time to get back to reading important stuff for actual life tomorrow, but is thankful for the lovely distraction*

I look forward to the next update! I want to see their development!
Sister of Mayhem chapter 2 . 9/29/2013
I have to admit that, after reading the first chapter, all I could think was: 'No! Don't continue this! It's perfect this way. How can you possibly make that any better?'

Still, I'm glad that you did. So often a sequel doesn't add anything remotely exciting or it's just a repeat of the events that happened in the first chapter, but seen through the eyes of another character. I've always found that rather dull. I mean, no matter how stunning the chemistry was between Harry and Draco during that hour of flying, why would I want to read it all over again? I just read it.

Luckily you didn't fall into that trap. Draco just further succeeded in melting my heart, and usually I don't get all warm and fuzzy about that character, so you must have doing a good thing.

I really loved the tension that was built up so carefully slowly. If I could only make one small remark: the idea about the apple was really inventive, but the bantering seemed to drag on a little too long for my taste.

Other than that, two thumbs up! :-)

And thank you for this amazingly sweet read!

...I will never see apples the same way again.
I don't yet know if that's a good or bad thing...
ray3arth chapter 1 . 5/26/2013
I was perfectly fine until you brought in the friends line. Then, it was like the entire series flashed before my eyes, and I remembered that scene from the movie, and then I was just dying in emotions. All the feelz!
...And then I got to the end and realized there's another chapter. Dear Lord I don't know if I can handle this. My emotions!
miarath chapter 1 . 1/2/2013
Hmm, this was quite delicious so far.
Mabey it is strange, since I'm not all that much into HP, but I like this pairing. :)
Alice Saturne chapter 2 . 11/13/2012
Your fic attached a huge smile to my face for at least half an hour. It's sweet, and oh so slow and lovely. Thank you! :)
OakStone730 chapter 2 . 3/22/2012
I keep encountering your reviews via Sara Holmes - I love how enthusiastic and verbose a reviewer you are, and just had to see what stories you had written. This is a great story, you leave us wishing there was more to come. The flying sequence was just lovely. I love the descriptions you use and I felt like I was flying along with them...

Really good glimpse at Theo, I like how he helps Draco/Harry out and would love to see more of him. Interesting rushing off of Ron by Hermione. Makes me think you were hinting that Hermione knows what needs to happen (as she always does).

Great story all around, Sorry my review doesn't match nearly the lengths that yours usually do, but please believe me when I say I loved your story!
AliceInCrazyland15 chapter 2 . 1/23/2012
I need to go find some bad drarry quick, before a fangirl is made out of me. Please tell me this isn't the end of it? please! I wanna know what Ron and hermione's reactions would be, and also what would happen to ginny. And I want more action, lemony action. PLLLLLEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSSSEEEE! *does best puppydog pout*
AliceInCrazyland15 chapter 1 . 1/23/2012
Damit. I don't like drarry. I absolutly loath it most times. So why is it you have me jumping up and down and squealing like a fan girl? I hate draco. With a passion. So why is it I just want to give him a hug and keep him all to myself. I told myself i wasn't going to read your drarry story. That there was no way you'd be good enough to change my mind, espesialy since your drarry starts after the books and doesn't change it all unlike the only other drarry I like. But something took ahold of my hand and made me click on the story. Then since i was there i just had to read it. You've blown my mind away. I may just have to ask you to marry me. And if you say no i'll kidnap you and make you my slave and make you write me tons and tons of Slashy harry potter fanfic goodness. You are Amazing, girl. And again, this is only the first chapter of the story!
EdeatheDemonFox chapter 2 . 9/13/2011
Oh my gosh...wow, I don't think words could adequately describe how perfect and just...amazing this was! I liked how this chapter involved more Draco because obviously those years did change him and it was mainly About Harry in those first few books so how you did Draco's take on it was superb. Again, I wish I could come up with more of a response to this but it was so indescribable, I can't even begin to explain. But I can say that I cannot wait until the next chapter! -
EdeatheDemonFox chapter 1 . 9/6/2011
Wow, this was amazing! I don't even know where to start! You were right, it had lots of fluff, which in turn made me spazz like the fluff-loving idiot I am! XP I also like how you did an eigth year because I always did wonder what their jobs were in the epilogue and such. Cause they grew up and had kids, but they didn't do much more than that so I like how you're getting more into that in an in-depth sense. All in all, this is fantastic, and I really, really like it! I also wonder how you and BlackenedWing can seriously sit here and make one chapter 8, 9, even 10 thousand words! XP I need to work on that!
Firefly1989 chapter 2 . 8/5/2011
Beautiful story. I'm so glad I found it thanks to Sara Holmes because I think I just fell in love :) You write it so well, I can feel so much hope from the story. Wow. I hope you'll manage to update soon, I can't wait to read more.

Thank you for sharing, the story is amazing :)

TwoFacedPhantom chapter 2 . 8/2/2011
Oh Yen, how I wish I could will you to marry me. *giggles* I am swooning over this story, it is just too yummy. Your Harry and Draco have my heart. Once again, I am only begging that this story goes on until it is time to be completed (as in, 98 chapters from now). Baha.

As always, keep up the wonderful writing. You're bloody brilliant at it. I can't wait for the next juicy, apple-scented chapter ;)

Love, Heather.
