I love this story. Ever since the show was cancelled and when they refused to make a sequel to "Serenity", I always wondered about pairing up Mal and River. All of the other stories I've read have always used her and Jayne, which sort of makes sense since they're both wild and unpredictable. But Mal was always to me a more soothing presence to River. You could see hints of that in the movie too. But you managed to capture the speech and mannerisms of these characters that felt more real than any fanfic. I could literally picture them in my head as I read this. This was simply brilliant and beautiful. I just wanted to say that.

it almost seems a waste to end it here, i get the feeling that seeing them life in a relationship long term would be more interesting than watching said relationship come about

I dont know, you spent so much time building up the dynamic between them that making things go so fast once the actual relationship starts feels out of place

jealousy has power, but i hope it takes more than that to get them together

the cassandra story does fit river well...

its going to take something special for mal to cross that line, stubbornness is as much a part of him as blood
