And Kame means Turtle. Kami means God. Just to clarify. I still LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this fic. Gaara is my favorite Naruto character.

The scenario for this works wonderfully, and you use it well to both establish setting and to isolate them. Although I prefer a bit more build up for the emotions, that you managed to cover so much ground and weave in a satisfactory amount of history in 2500 words is remarkable.

...I guess my plan backfired, because this doesn't keep me from wanting to read the longer one any more than if I had read the first chapter of it! XD
