Uh... No it wasn't, any woman of noble birth during the european middle ages was capable of reading, it was part of their education.
You also seem to be pretty confused about what was considered young or old during the period because thirty was certainly not considered young, neither was fourteen.

I loved this whole story. I'm usually kinda wish-wasn't about the Twilight gang in a period piece, but this is really great! And I adore Redheaded, freckled, AMERICAN Sarah!

I loved this Bella but this Edward was incredibly, good father, good son, good husband, good lover and good King.
