After finishing Bad Jokes I started reading this and I must say that it is interesting how much Harley has grown in the criminal world and the way in which he supports the attitude of the Joker. I keep reading this series, see you have a sequel.

I really, REALLY like this story.

Harley makes me want to cry, quite honestly. She loves someone who may never really love her back, and she KNOWS it. It's hard to see her just take these things. The Joker's mind games, his physical violence, his lack of normal affection-she just takes them, is ENCOURAGED that he hasn't been as violent as he usually is towards her, and that kind of thing. Her calm, rational approach to an abusive relationship is just... It just makes me feel a touch hollow. Poor woman.

I also want to mention Harley as the narrator. It was an excellent choice to write this in first person. You really get the full scope of what she's feeling, what she's thinking. I don't think third person would have been sufficient to explain how she went from Harleen to Harley. I understand why she's doing what she's doing-why she feels what she feels. I certainly don't agree with her, but I understand her, and that's key.

Also, I don't know why, but for some reason "A Dirge" by Percy Bysshe Shelley popped into my head while I was reading this. More specifically, the last line: "Wail, for the world's wrong!"

Also (again), I like what you did with the Joker's thoughts on appearances. Most of the Joker stories I've read have him either outright state, or think, that he likes the way he looks. I think he does, on some level: but I like what you did here, having him cast aside any convention of attractiveness (while still understanding the effect it has on other people), like he does with every other convention. It's pure Joker, in the best way.

To sum up, you've done an excellent job writing a Nolanverse Harley. I think you've done the best job, actually. I will freely admit that I didn't get all the way through Bad Jokes, though I wish I could have-it wasn't rated M, and it wasn't technically graphic, but it still got to be a bit much for me. What I read, though, was wonderful.

One final thought: I don't suppose you'd consider doing a Nolanverse Riddler? *grins* I'd love to see your take on the entire Rouges Gallery, honestly. It'd be a treat.

I have to admit, when I first read this, I figured that the repercussions of Harley's action would happen off screen. That they played a prominent part in following stories was pretty sweet.

I like the idea that the Joker would have a high tolerance to drugs, I could very easily picture that being the case.

The description of what Harley did to the girl impersonating her was chilling, and I love the idea of Joker bragging about Harley's viciousness. I also like his line about how they each deal with imitators, that was pretty funny :)

All in all, it was an awesome story, and I enjoy reading it each time.

Yes Harley, just competing against the batman here.

Brilliant. Loved it.
The Joker's reaction when he came to was perfect. Most writers would have him beat the shit out of her imidiately, but I like his non reaction. He's never going to consistently react in the same ways. His motivation isn't "teaching her a lesson" or "dominating her". I tend to think he gets rougher when he's grumpy. No reason to be grumpy after a good long rest!
But, yes, good on her to get the hell out of there while he plans his revenge.
