This was a great final chapter for volume two. Barty isn't exactly trustworthy, even if he does care for Gwen, so I'm interested to see how this will carry out. In the end, Barty's loyalty will always reside with his master.

Of course Malfoy always has to prove how cultured he is, no matter the situation.

"Barty cast a look of disgust at his back as he left the hall – he didn't like children at the best of times..."

Oh, I can relate to that. I'm very protective of children, but that doesn't mean I want any of my own.

It makes sense that Barty feels like he hasn't proven himself yet. That thirst would obviously carry on to his nefarious actions during the Triwizard Tournament.

I'm glad that you showed how Barty doesn't despise every fiber of his father's being. There's definitely hatred there, but he's still his father, after all. However, I believe that last hint of affection for his father vanishes for good after the man publicly disowns him.
I don't think Barty fully understands what he has gotten himself into at this point.

Anyway, nice start.

OMG THIS IS BRILLIANT! I think its a good idea to put it up to M considering certain things :P i loved this chapter. im slightly sad that barty would hurt gwen but i guess iforgive him if he feels bad about it late. i cant wait for the next chapter! i dont think that barty would show her the mark thou..but u never know! part of me wishes he would :) the rat was peter and the beetle was rita.. i think peter was probably there as a spy of voldy and then vodys gnna use gwen to threaten barty and make him do something evil. cant wait for the next chapter! pleasee update soon i love this fic! and im glad gwen suddenly realised something is wrong :)

Hm... I recon it's either one of two things. The first is kinda obvious: Gwens gunna see the Dark Mark. Or the second: Barth really HAS spilt that potion on his arm... Just not by accident. Of course, it could be something else completly, but those are my two guesses.

Right, so the beetle was Rita Skeeter, right? And the rat was quite obviously Pettigrew. I can kinda guess what Rita Skeeter was doing there (she IS Rita Skeeter, after all) But Pettigrew? Hm, a little more confused... Though I do have a couple ideas.

hehe I think trying to make him adorable while him being a Death Eater just makes him even MORE adorable if thats even possible... and I must say Barty has been a real sweetheart in this chapter being so patient with the opera and what not... I can not wait till you update! XD are you going to do a scene in their hotel or are you just going to skip that part? I guess I will find out next chapter!
