Oh goodness. This was an unexpected find. Let me just say, I seriously love Colonel Potter, and it's so exceedingly rare to find a story told from his point of view. You convey his frustration and disillusionment so well. And the poem which inspired this story is eerily fitting.

First off, I love that poem, it is so powerful, the first time I read it my heart was in my throat and my stomach was attempting to join it! "If in some smothering dream you too could pace, behind the wagon that we flung him in and watch the white eyes wreathing in his face, his hanging face, like a devils sick of sin. If you could hear at every jolt the blood, come gargling from his forth corrupt lungs . . ." that is the part that always gets me!

The story was brilliant. I am surprised how I never put the two together easy, but when you do it seems so right. Thanks for writing it and I hope that it helped you "blow off steam"
