Love this story but the revelation that Spike and Billy are actually related is ridiculously far-fetched and unnecessarily schmaltzy. Spike and Billy being related is so improbable that it feels like a forced contrivance in the plot line.
As i said, I truly enjoy this story but the one issue of Spike being related to Billy feels sophomoric.

Why, after all the sick, cruel things Riley did and said he would do, does Buffy tell them about the sand putting the flames out? That makes no sense at all. She should have staked Riley and Nathan or let Riley burn. I can't agree that Buffy would let a twisted, sadistic psycho like that alive for one second longer than she needs to.
Having said that, I am enjoying this story. The above complaint being the only glitch.

Love the Dexter thing

Really well done. The set-up and world of the story were creatively imagined and the plot was engaging. Spike's situation when the story began made sense and was truly pleasing in its turn-about way. Buffy's emotional trajectory also worked, which is praise given that it starts from the absolute nadir of "Dead Things." Thank you for sharing this.
