Loved this story and a big fan of Slagar/Chickenhound, a character I always felt a strange sympathy for. Really nice work.

This story is very touching and it's just AMAZING. And no, it is not OOC, or too sappy. I like how Sela still loved Slagar/Chickenhound, but was proud of him when he was, well, 'Slagar the CRUEL'. And I LOVED when, after a long time of pretending indifference, Slagar still loved Sela.

I do think the beginning is a little out-of-universe, however. It would have been more appropriate to use a Redwall-esque insult (ex. fleabag). Also, when you begin talking about Slagar the Cruel, you used "Slagar" a bit too often. It sounds a little repetitive.

Anyway, there aren't too many glaring errors, and this is a beautiful story. You've captured the vermin mother's voice well- she is loving but retains some cruelty. THANK YOU for not making her a sappy heap.

Great little story, brought a couple tears to my eyes. That's a sign of a great author- one who can make his/her readers feel emotions. I'll definitely be looking out for more of your stories.
