I always loved their antagonism in the books and you captured it nicely. :D People don't normally like Faquarl because his choice of forms isn't as pretty as Bartimaeus' tend to be but the fact remains is that they are shapeshifters and can be any form they choose, so their appearance doesn't really matter. Loved the wa you addressed that.

Okay Bartimaeus and Faquarl are basically the best bros ever. There are a lot of cool bromances in this series (disregarding gender. Kitty and Bart totally count as bros as much as Nathaniel and Bart do.), but I can never find Bart/Faquarl bro-fics. And now there is one. And while I completely refrain from shipping, esp. in this trilogy, I thoroughly enjoyed this story SO UH. Good job portraying their dynamic!

This is a true piece of art! I love how you depict all of Faquarl's and Bartimaeus' interactions. You made me love this pairing.

After I read this and then thought about all the interaction between Barty and Faquarl in the future, I was somewhat reminded of the relationship between Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler. Just that kind of odd relationship that somewhat whimsical and mostly nonsensical, haha. This piece was a pretty interesting take on their past meetings. I'm not exactly one for slash pairings (as much as my gaydar goes off for Barty lolol) but this.. It could work, haha. It was nicely written.

Faquarl isn't just a minor character to me Ive always liked him and I wish somehow him and Barti could have been friends. Im glad more people might right about faquarl now that we have RoS out.

Except for that the reason Barti causes the sandstorm on faquarl was because of him collapsing and limestone brick on barti and trying to kill him, or so barti thinks, this story is pretty great. I just dont get the limestone/sandstorm thing. Doesn't really need explination though, their animosity could have been a huge misunderstanding and its just a matter of circumstance. I also thought spirits cant be sexual, but it doesn't matter

I adore the flow here. Part of the appeal of these two for me is the sense of time and old resentment, but the how their similarity draws them inextricably together. You've really brought that to the foreground here. They don't like each other, and that's fine. They're still reflections, two parts of one perfect whole that can't stay away from each other.

GAH. Trying to be articulate. JUST SO STUNNED BY AWESOME.

I think my favourite part was Faquarl stunning Bartimaeus with a handsome form. Something about how Faquarl chooses to be ugly when he could be beautiful really struck a chord with me, especially when Bartimaeus admits that beauty really doesn't suit him. I think I've always kind of thought that the only real difference between them was that Bartimaeus sees beauty in the human world and takes a certain pleasure in it, but Faquarl sees only pain and indignity - but reading this really solidified it in my head.

So, if the fic that I'm sort of not really poking continuously and trying to finish ever gets finished and posted, that's pretty much all on you. I can't really thank you enough for that. But I'll try: .

Back to your story: part three was glorious. Faquarl's (completely understandable) anger, Bartimaeus' cheekiness and unspoken apology... Just... GUH. In character. Interesting. Showing not telling. Them almost coming to blows beforehand. I'm honestly trying my best to give you the review you deserve here, but I'm too overwhelmed.

Plus, the not-really-sex? Really damn hot. I wish I could complain about it being so short and non-explicit, but it's just fine as it is. Any form of sex between demonic shape-shifters is

Okay, okay, okay. I'm going to rein in my gushiness and do the whole rounded critique thing that I always like to get on my stuff. Here's what didn't work for me. There isn't much.

- Part two's first person. If it were a piece on its own I would have no complaints, but when it's wedged between three other pieces in third person it's kind of jarring. As far as I'm concerned the piece wouldn't suffer at all if you converted it to match the rest.

- This one's more of a nitpick than anything else. Part four's reference to Faquarl taking the form of the handsome blond to please Bartimaeus doesn't really gel with my idea of Faquarl. He doesn't seem like the type to compromise. But I suppose this is my interpretation of a character that we see comparatively little of in canon, so feel free to disregard this. If my interpretations were more valid than anyone else's, everyone would think of Faquarl as being one-sidedly besotted with Bartimaeus while Bartimaeus was too up himself to notice.

Once again, I really can't thank you enough for this. What you've created here is beautiful and original, and its mere existence completely rocks my socks.
