H71bkajolhh17986jgj1f21oydkj chapter 2 . 2/3/2017 Yes. |
HyperCatnip chapter 2 . 9/17/2015 This is fascinating and really lovecraftian. I like it. |
Lanhua chapter 1 . 7/25/2015 It took me years, and I didn't know and wouldn't have known had I been ata random wikipedia linkspam tour, but I know that's a Proto Indo European fable made as an illustrative text! And I wouldn't have known unless you had been such a wonderful riter that my memory had been seared with the names of your stories! |
Stormdragon6 chapter 2 . 6/8/2014 I remember first finding this and all your work and being so, so amazed. The idea of a monster that obliterates you by NOTICING you really got to me somehow. And I didn't actually think it'd be updated. Here I am, like 2.3 years late to this news. But I'm really glad I got to see it! As I take it, Naruto was stupid enough to speak one of the Seven Names of the Beast and as punishment, got sucked inside the Beast, and has to live in that purgatory-like setting forever? But the Beast lets him out if he agrees to feed it with humans from "our world". That's my perception. And the unnamed master who was the narrator last chapter has now become all-powerful because he knows the ultimate word? I wonder if that was Jiraiya. Or Kakashi? Hm. On the whole, the idea of a monster-that's-actually-a-REALM still freaks me out a little; the uniqueness of that idea and how ominously and starkly it's presented, that is, not many people know it, but we can't deny it and have examples of how easily it destroys us, is still so, so striking to me. No lie, if people ever ask me for fanfiction recommendations, (if they use the word "Dark" or "horror" or "different" or anything like that) I will gladly hand them this. This, or He Had No Fingers. I said it in my review when I first found that a few years back, but I wanted to say it again, some parts of that fic literally made me light-headed and ill. In a good way, by which I mean, "this is the way a damn good horror story should affect you. It should GET to you beyond understanding words on the page." I saw the word "chitin" in there so many times, and I didn't entirely know what chitin was, but it sort of...grossed me out regardless? I just had my own vaguely-informed idea, and there were a few times where I would remember that story, and suddenly smell something weird, and I had the idea that I was "smelling chitin" because the memory just...did that. A sort of "I just watched a movie about serial killers and now I think every creak in my house is definitely an axe murderer stepping closer to my bedroom" type of experience. But damn it was so impressive. So half this review is about this story and half is about another. Whhhoooops. Your profile says you were taking some kind of medication when you wrote a lot of your stuff. Well. As far as I know, a positive side-effect of your "craziness" was that you wrote some damn good horror fiction. Much thank. I hope you're feeling more on the up and up than you were when you had to take whatever it was. |

Violet Shadows chapter 2 . 1/27/2012 Oh hell yes, does this mean we're going to get to see more? |
Evil Made chapter 2 . 1/27/2012 You should write more fanfiction, I miss your particular brand of content. |
Stormdragon6 chapter 1 . 1/19/2012 Hi. Allow me to warn you that this review is first going to cover my thoughts on your writing in general, and as well as this story in particular. Because I don’t think it’s proper to comment on this story without its style of writing and how it permeates every single work of yours, and how undeniably amazing it is. So. Once upon a time I found a site that recommended a story called “He Had No Fingers” for its word choice and overwhelming creepiness and I was intrigued. I didn’t expect to become light-headed and actually more than a little scared upon reading it, disturbed by events while enchanted by words. This story, which I literally cannot re-type the name of (and that’s probably on purpose) gave me a similar feeling, stronger, even. It was striking, chilling and shot utter creepiness up my spine as HHNF had, but…somehow in a different way I can’t quite describe. It doesn’t pack a punch the size and spirit of…hell, I suppose, but it’s hinting at horrid and monstrous things in the world, a new but very near one, a SENTIENT one. That is awe-inspiring powerful in its own way, I'll have to leave it at that. Judging by your profile, which I read because I am, how you say, dedicated and “cool” like that, you would know the feeling of not quite being able to describe what you feel or think, because, as your profile states, language by definition shapes something in the terms of somebody else, words you did not invent so they cannot reflect exactly your own shade of meaning. Just writing that sentence makes me realize I may have just fallen in love with your brain. Your masterful use of language to place creepy undertones, maybe very blatant ones, in a story are just amazing. Your masterful use to language for anything is amazing. Please, for the love of God, publish a book someday. I could fangasm for several paragraphs more, but let’s just move on to rēḱs deiwoskʷe itself, because it definitely deserves merit of its own. This is a lesson from a mentor to Naruto about the danger of words and names. There are many people round the world who ought to read this just to learn that words and names are hugely dangerous. I think I became hooked on this when I read…the forbidden “E” word. The information passed to Naruto by his mentor, the danger and the very existence of the Beast, how even the speaking of a word can allow it to absorb a slice of the world—without even knowing about the other world!—or its gaze or even thoughts trained on your would rip your apart or rip you right from the earth. That idea, that perception of the Kyuubi or any such Beast in existence, scares the hell out of me. I pray reality remains stranger than fiction. Perhaps I’m having these thoughts because I read this tale on my phone while sitting in bed just past midnight, it being the only light source in a dark room. Yup, my own fault. I won’t ask for a sequel to this because that’s silly and unnecessary for this particular fanfic, but I hope that someday you’ll come back to the Naruto fandom and add another story of the Nine-tails being less “aggressive and powerful” as it so often is, and more “unfathomable and hellish”. Only you have ever portrayed him/it that way, have put a story on the site with this kind of beautiful, frightening and almost otherworldly writing and I love it all, even as thoughts of it keeps me from sleeping soundly after reading. Gleam, the writing world’s lucky to have you. I hope you come back soon. Respect and regards, Storm. |
Endfall chapter 1 . 10/18/2011 This just bumped itself into my personal top ten. Excellent work! |
In Like Vin chapter 1 . 5/31/2011 "words that boat meaning" I love your writing. |
Guardian Box chapter 1 . 5/30/2011 Cool story, liked it. Reading the reviews though it is clear that for many it's theirs first jaunt into Lovecraftian horror, which is a shame. Still, not bad story at all. |
Les Rallizes Denudes chapter 1 . 4/2/2011 Has someone been reading The King In Yellow? Still, very good. Deep without being pretentious and brings a general tension that most writers can't touch. |
