That was beautiful and touching.

This one-shot was a very interesting and sweet different take on the first Httyd movie and I genuinely enjoyed it a lot. Not just because of how well it was written, but also because of the premise of the fic. Toothless growing fond of Hiccup not only because he spared his life, but also because he has the unbearable air of loneliness all around him was so bittersweet.
There was such little scent of Hiccup's fellows on im and understandably so. It's really sweet how Toothless thought it was despicable that someone seemingly as small and young as Hiccup wasn't watched all the time AND decided to do something about it himself. If Hiccup's own father and fellow Viking's couldn't raise the boy right, this Night Fury certainly would.
I love how it is stated that Toothless has had his own fair of share of hatchlings he sired, raised, protected and had every intention to raise Hiccup to the best of his ability too, even though the teen is not at all a dragon and definitely not a Night Fury. What made this plot point complete as Toothless does have something a little more fatherly (or perhaps something big brotherly) about him throughout this fic and was more than willing to give Hiccup the love and recognition that he's been denied for so long.
I truly enjoyed this fic and especially the ending. Not only does Hiccup end up smelling more like a dragon than a human at that point with their collective effort to bury his loneliness as deep as it could go, but they all also decided to follow the saying 'it takes a village to raise a child' and they do it all of their own volition! Except, you know, it's more like 'it takes a dragon's nest to raise a hatchling' here.
I honestly don't know what else to say about this one-shot. It was perfect in every way and I loved reading it.

No, I completely get this idea (I've read almne's story and remember that line...I'm glad you've not turned Toothless female with it though (for some reason I prefer him male though I might consider some asexual version if done well enough lolx).
Anyway, this is very well portrayed with Toothless' 'voice' and the reason for things. The notion of smell being the most important is almost 'realistic' (well as realistic as imagining a dragon's biology is anyway) and that Hiccup is viewed as 'alone' and 'young' and 'adopted' fit beautifully. Thanks for posting!

HOLY CROW! this was amazing! it really made me think of the entire movie in a whole new way! I absolutely loved it! I'm glad that plot bunny popped up for this is simply perfect!

This is one of my FAVORITE httyd stories. I've read it so many times over it's honestly a bit ridiculous on my part. Amazing job, and I think it's perfectly understandable.
