I like it. A lot of people have a hard time capturing the characters personalities in fan fiction, but you did a swell job at both. I like your perspective on L's view of religion.

I think L WOULD be interested in religion...He probably felt like he needed to do something for others...Kinda like Mello in this FanFic. You hit both characters spot-on, by the way. I love how their attitudes and words are so cynical and calculated...this is probably how they'd go about the conversation if the original writer's and written it. Great job! :D
