Sameo chapter 1 . 7/23/2012 Hi, I think it's an original story describing very well Melissa's psychology! Too bad there aren't many stories about her; she's a very interesting character, actually. Personnally, I just finished "Metroid: Other M" like 2days ago, and it's true we could still have this minor hope to have this personnality back in one of the next Metroid games to come! Finally, we can also notice that Samus felt compassionate for Melissa as she understood her behavior in a way, so if she ever appeared again, would she stay an antagonist or become a right-side character? To be continued... ; ) Good job, anyway! |
MiniJen chapter 1 . 11/26/2011 wow i loved that! great way of capturing MB's world view! |
Foresabaly chapter 1 . 1/2/2011 I really liked this one-shot. It was very serious, and kind of had that empty yet emotional feeling people got from MB. I like that this reflection actually had a setting - right after James Pierce was shot. Also, I finally know how Samus' hair stays up. hahaha! I like the line at the end, "Mother, child, and grandchildren…in their final seconds within the physical world, MB would unite them all, eliminating any and all foolish enough to stand in her way." I guess Madeline is like a grandmother if MB is a mother. Good job. :) |
Troid chapter 1 . 1/1/2011 Firstly, thank you so much for taking the time to do with Melissa's wonderful character what the game's writers were too incompetent to do (namely, expand upon it in a way at all meaningful). I like what you've focused on; I like how you underscore the maternal connection(s). You chose not to include what I'd say is the "other" big component of Melissa's desire for revenge, which is the general scumminess of humans and how they belittled her ideas and wanted to turn her into a mindless weapons handler, but that's great because there's more for me. I have to agree with DrkVrtx that the use of "mom" is out of left field. There wasn't any prior mention of what Melissa called Madeline, and there was no discussion at the moment of why she chose that word-there was potential for a lot of lovely emotion there that I think is missed. Also, the ending seemed off. Not abrupt or disappointing in any way, just off. Is Melissa possessive of Madeline? She never mentioned togetherness or separation. Is she suicidal, or just accepting that she's going to die (or am I reading into the "closure" bit too much?)? Why does the fact that she can't bring herself to hate Madeline make it so she wants to be with her? I enjoyed this story very much, and I'd love to see you write more concerning Melissa and Madeline. Perhaps the confrontation itself? If you wanted to stick with the style you used here, it's fun (and surprisingly easy in some ways) to write "current event" scenes like a confrontation with little to no dialogue and an introspective viewpoint like this. If I'm making any sense whatsoever. In short, great story, keep up the good work, write more with Melissa in it. |
DrkVrtx chapter 1 . 1/1/2011 I'm surprised that its taken this long for a fic focused on MB/MB to come to light, but aside from that, this was indeed an enjoyable read. The theme throughout is consistent and the use of language reflects the nature of the narration; were I to nitpick, I would say that Melissa's "Please…please help me…mom…" seems somewhat...off. I would've expected her to refer to Madeline by name or 'mother', rather than 'mom'. Nevermind that though, ignore me; this is an excellent one-shot and once again, a thoroughly enjoyable read. |
