Very fascinating to take a peek inside John's mind during that time!

Thank you for this story, I thought it was beautifully written and well constructed; although Thornton's pov is not an unusual one to be writing from, I thought you gave it a really fresh twist. I also like the fact that you understand the adage "less is more". Loved this story, it left me wanting more

Beautifully written! I tortured Thornton is captured very well in your words and it is a beautiful addition to the last few chapters of the book.

I really really liked this! Mr Thorntons such a great character and you wrote him really well, like I'd imagine his thoughts to be :D I thought it read really like the book as well and I love that its mainly based off that, please think about writing more North and South fanfiction that would be awesome! The only criticism I have is that like a previous reviewer, I think it would have been nice to see his reaction and thoughts when he finally knows she loves him too but I liked how it ended as well, so we know there's a happy ending :D one of my favourite stories in this fandom definitely :)

Fantastic. That's exactly what Thornton is for so much of their acquaintance: a jealous fool. I would have just liked a bit more at the end, when he can finally let go his jealousy and revel in the fact that Margaret's shyness is due to her being in love with him! Surely that would be so rewarding to him, after all his self-doubt and self-imposed torture!

This is such an insightful chapter. We see a man who knows himself now, and who has a clear understanding of his own heart. The scene is touching; the writing clear, descriptive without being overly glossed. Well done!

It was a really well writen and beautiful story. I always enjoy reading Mr. Thorton's thought (more so than Margaret's I admit).

Heartbreaking perfection! You nailed it. I really wish some other writers shared your talent for understanding characters. I do hope you write more North & South. Perhaps Mr. Thorton's thoughts on her acceptance of him. *cough*

I loved this, and I honestly can't understand why you haven't received more reviews. This was perfect - one of my favourite things about the novel is that Gaskell really gets into Thornton's psyche and lets the reader know what he's feeling. You brought out all the angst that Thornton must have been feeling at this point in the novel (before Margaret saves him) perfectly. Keep writing!
