I think this is an interesting story so far, but isn't "rouges" supposed to be "rogues"? "Rouge" is "red" in French, "rouge" could be referring to cosmetics, and there is also a film called "Rouge". By saying that there is a group of rouge cats, that means that there is a group of red cats or cosmetic cats or something strange like that.
