I know that there have been other Italy finds out that H.R.E. didn't die but became Germany fics out there. But I'm a sap for happy endings and the fact that Louise even as Germany remembers her time as H.R.E. really makes me wish there was a continuation for this.

I mean it's really sad that Germany can't tell Italy and I really would love to see a FemGermany take on the whole finding out plot. Also you have to admit it is kind of funny adding Himaruya's plot, where H.R.E. till the very end believed that Italy was a girl. to your plot where even now Italy has no idea that H.R.E was a girl.

Poor Germany, having to stay quiet.

this was nicely done, with the interspaced thoughts of "That's not true" to Italies sad memories. I wish Germany would have said anything in the end, though. Maybe you intent to write a sequel where she reveals herself? I would love to read it!

Think about it, why did you believe you had to explain the story with almost as much words as the story itself? I find such footnotes (headnotes, too) always quite distracting, a story should always stand on its own, without one word of explanation needed (which was the case here).

APH chose to show it that way, I know, and it is nothing wrong to stay in its "canon", with Austria being some kind of big brother/cousin/whatever to HRE (and Prussia, too). I just like to remark, for the sake of completeness: Historically it has been of course rather the other way around: Austria is younger than Holy Roman Empire and he, Austria, is only one of many german princedoms in the Empire that HRE represents at the time. What they also do share is the same boss for half of their history (Austria's Boss being the Holy Roman Emperor).

I always understood the chibitalia scenes to be of different times. When HRE asked her to join him and build an Empire I suppose we are back in the High Middle Ages when HRE actually was going to rule over most of Italy and half of Europe. When HRE later (living at Austria's) goes to war and leaves Italy, its several hundred years later (1618) - or even later, as HRE did not die de facto until much later, but that wasn't in a long, long war, as Hetalia states.
