And no, as a German speaker, there really isn't any easier way to say sorry. "Es tut mir lied" can be shortened to just "Tut mir lied", but that's pretty much it. But in German, "Es tut mir lied" is only really used for when someone is SUPER sorry (think in English "my heartfelt apologies"). If it's just a quick thing, you'd usually use "Entschuldigung" which is basically "Pardon" or "Excuse me".
