Miss Savvy chapter 1 . 11/30/2011 This is breathtaking and exceptionally well written. I rather enjoy how you've managed to weave Teague into this as well; it's quite interesting. I'm sad this is only a one shot, however, it really is much more haunting and eerie the way you've ended it. For that matter, well done! |
mrspencil chapter 1 . 9/26/2011 Beautiful, and chilling. Very impressed with your scene setting and use of language and images. Thank you Mrs P:-) |
Addicted to Jack chapter 1 . 1/5/2011 Captivating and haunting, poetic, touching... Icant find words to describe this. Masterpiece. |
Consulting Demon chapter 1 . 11/6/2010 Oh. My. God. That's amazing! but um... little setback: the first brethren court meeting was like 100 years before PotC AWE... Teague wouldn't have been alive then. but its still amazing |
Naisa chapter 1 . 10/31/2010 Really well written, loved the description of calypso as the sea etc, then realising she was human, and the description of the emotions and face od Davy Jones in the mirror was also really good. I really liked it :) |
sm.bean chapter 1 . 10/26/2010 ...wow. Wow, very intense and beautifully written piece. The parallels in the transformations of Calypso and Davey Jones are nearly poetic. "In his mind's eye he saw how he would burn down the church on that island where he had wanted to marry her. He would never carry anyone to the other side, he would watch the souls perish into the ultimate disappointment when they would realize that death, that dying would never end. Let her beloved sea be stained with millions of souls left adrift, draining of all hope and feelings. He would destroy it all, turn her kingdom into the watery ashes, into the darkness that everyone would fear. He was the sea!" -This particular passage is powerful, haunting and chilling. The scene in AWE where Tia stares out into the sea inside the Locker filled with the transparent souls and the tears slide down her face instantly came to mind. Davey Jones was definately successful in hurting her. Wonderful work, -bean. |
Willofthewisp chapter 1 . 10/25/2010 Thank you so much for such a dazzling one-shot. It's sublime. "His eyes were dully alert and narrow, as if he was constantly squinting to see something in the distance, to capture the fading world around him."-I love the wording here, the word 'capture.' It completely foreshadows Davy Jones' possessive nature, but also shows how broken and confused he is right now too. "Can you live with this," to quote the man himself. Calypso's transformation is so metaphysical and poetic, like a backwards birth of Venus. I love how we can feel it all, how it touches each sense. "It's not the sea that you wanted to free. You wanted to free yourself." He turned around, meeting Jones' narrowed eyes. "But to free yourself you'd have to remain yourself."-Including Teague was genius here, and it's so wonderful he's serving as Jones' conscience almost. The mirror...this is a dark Gothic tale like something out of Poe or Hawthorne! "That's a curious idea but I doubt it was what kept you awake all night,"-I never pictured myself as the type to swoon over Teague, but putting myself into the girl's shoes here, yeah. So yeah. Their relationship is purposely vague, adding so much mystery to them, and I bet Teague was thrown for a loop when they had a boy. He would destroy it all, turn her kingdom into the watery ashes, into the darkness that everyone would fear."-My goodness, this was...I can't call it intense, passionate, or just good writing without cheapening it. This is a story with a different kind of beauty. When your very heartbeat reminds you of someone else, I can't imagine how blissful but how possessive and consuming their love was. The last two lines, so ironic and yet connecting him to Calypso again. Thank you for such a great one-shot. |
Manechka chapter 1 . 10/24/2010 The best Davy Jones fic, I think (though there are not so many, he isn't so populair hero/villain as Barbossa e.g.) And the eternal question: who is the sea really? She stopped in that point, where he began... And your parallel "shreds of the world" / shreds of the mirror appeal to me so. "I cannot fathom the difference" - probably Teague was Davy's tempter to SHOW this difference: "..He would watch the souls perish into the ultimate disappointment when they would realize that death, that dying would never end. Let her beloved sea be stained with millions of souls left adrift, draining of all hope and feelings". Oh, your poetical abilities enrapture me beyond expression - Many thanks. |
