-Because he exists, from James Potter's own mouth. I find James exceptionally out of character here, given that James pulled his little stunt by the lake *after* the werewolf 'prank'.

But then, nobody does really care about Snape, not even Snape himself.

um, I LOVE THIS. The fight between James and Sirius is perfect - natural dialogue; the anger and heartbreak just come right through. It's so nice to read something that treats this incident like a big deal - it put a lot of pressure on these friendships. I'd love to see more in this vein - bring Remus into it? And I do love the framing. thanks for sharing this!

So I first read this story last year, and it absolutely blew me away. I probably sat there just staring at the computer screen, and then immediately went and read everything else you wrote (and since you write so many stories, that's saying something). And it's been a year since I last read it, but tonight I was just thinking, and I had this sudden urge to read the story about The Incident that ends with Lily listening to Sirius cry in the dark. That's the kind of story this is-a story that is so amazingly put together that I still remember it clearly a year after the fact.

I'm actually really surprised I didn't review this before now actually-and this story deserves a lot more reviews than it's gotten!

This is so damn beautiful that I've read it through about three times. I get to the end and just scroll up and read it all again.

And every single time, even though I know it's coming, I crumble and cry when I get to the last line.

'Instead, in the empty quiet, Lily Evans sits still and listens to Sirius Black cry.'

That crack you just heard? Yeah, that's the sound of my heart breaking.

This is a great one-shot. James and Sirius are so in character I feel like I'm actually reading JKRowling's canon.
