Interesting, however just as in the destruction of Vulcan why is it thought that anyone would suddenly stop being who they are. The only way Uhura could honor her lost people and planet would be by living the best life that she could and keeping her culture within her. Which means she would not simply "marry a survivor" to "help" her race. The only thing to do would be to do all one could along with everyone else to stop the murderer of a planet, then honor the fallen, mourn, then pick up her life and live well. She loves Spock he loves her, so her future is with him as it was before the destruction of Earth, Vulcan would be her home planet now.

"What do you require? Tell me." Ohhhh, Spock. Uhura retains her focus and professionalism, and takes brief refuge ...

And Spock's thoughts about the endangered Human species - and all that is lost - throw the Vulcans' situation into sharp relief for those who couldn't relate before.

You know, I read your story... some time ago. Probably some time after the first film came out, and I made the mistake of not favorating (Is that even a word?) it, despite the fascinating spin it puts on the original story.
But somehow from time to time I would remember it... and now finally I've found it again!

I like the fact that Spock is acting captain and seems to have no problem wanting to be one. Even more I like how Spock let down his shields and allowed himself to show emotion to Nyota in her most desperate time of need. In fact who more than Spock knows the cost of maintaining one's emotions under duress. So he knows what it was costing Nyota to hold on to her emotions after losing so much..yet Spock could be the one to comfort her...thanks for sharing this!

Interesting take on this, would like to see you take this further. However why would Uhura be a member of a minority group, if in 2010 there are over a billion people of African descent their numbers might be a lot more in 2258. Based on population growth stats today people of European descent might be the minority in the future. Terrans were known for having many colonies in the ST world so how would that fit in your AU?
