Dang... this is an interesting idea. Never thought of shipping Piandao at all, let alone with Mai... but now I really really want to read the companion pieces to this. My favorite part was when Mai was throwing stuff at the wall, because that's totally what she would do, and then Piandao notices and offers to train her. that's just a totally in character interaction. Good work!

Interesting dynamic between two very cool characters, and nice action with the knife deflection. It's good to see Mai drawn out of her ennui. The thing is, Piandao still does come across as a bit of a creep, since no explanation was given for his buying (according Mai) a teenaged least he doesn't, ah, press his marital rights, but still.

Reading about Mai's boredom reminded me of an essay that was linked by lizbee about Betty Draper from Mad Men, how the boredom of a housewife's life and curtailed possibilities led her to be the way she is. Everyone needs an outlet for talent and energy, and it was good to see Mai and Piandao together making the best of an imperfect situation.

I was surprised that I really liked this story. To me, they make a better couple than Zuko and Mai. If you added a longer sequel or continued this story, I would totally read it because I wanna see their relationship progress into a happy marriage. _ Thanks for posting!

I'm more of a Piandao/Ty Lee shipper myself, but you take this so seriously that I can't consider it a crack pairing. You make them work, and the explanation for the backstory is very believable. Very nicely done overall.

I like that concept of them together. Kuko fics just straight write Mai off completely or put her down. If Zuko is unavailable, Piando could work.
