Pearl, Truephan, let me start off by saying that you two have a wonderful talent for writing that has damn near revitalized my interest in the phandom even as a crazy busy 24 year old grad student! Hell, what I wouldn’t give for a DP remake aimed at a slightly higher age level, but that’s another issue...

Anyways you guys, this was a truly wonderful story. It was innovative, it was enthralling, but most importantly, it was incredibly evocative. And not to mention you guys stay so true to the characters and that has always been, in my book, what I personally judge fics for most harshly. That being said, I only have one real criticism, and I really hope you would take it to heart.

I want to read Endgame, but after seeing the end of both this story and Checkmate, I’m scared to do it. I’m considering not starting the thing at all. At first, seeing Checkmate have such a heartbreaking ending was completely buffeted by the knowledge that the sequel was in works. So it was okay, I told myself, that they’d fallen apart from one another at the end that wasn’t really an end. There was a new chance; surely the wounds could mend and love would win out in the end!

But then I read this one and it feels like it’s just a pattern for you. Dangle a bright future for these two in front of the readers like a carrot before the mule and then just rip it away. Make it seem like just maybe, they’ll reconcile. And then some right bullshit happens like a miscommunication and they’re back to square one. It’s exhausting. As a reader, there’s nothing that makes me feel more like I’ve wasted my time.

Again, I could just be pessimistic. But as far as I know, this story is ending here, and it’s ending on a very tragic note. And that’s ruined this entire experience for me. I feel like I’ve been tricked, and not in a funny way. Not at all. I’m not sure if it was your intention, but the only thing a reader could take away from this particular fic is that Vlad will never change, and Danny will never reach him. This story advertised a premise of the two overcoming their differences and learning to find a common ground, spends thirty odd chapters doing so, only to have you as the authors go “Naaahhh, fuck you!” right at the end.

And that, combined with the more or less identical ending to Checkmate, sours not only this entire fic for me, but my faith that you would deviate from this format in the future.

I really hesitate to say that because when all is said snd done, I absolutely adore your writing style, ideas, and grasp on the characters. But what I love more are happy endings. Please take this into consideration.

Especially Clockwork. First I HATED him, but along the way you made me think of him less evil than the rest until he was neutral and then he was my man, again!

THIS STORY IS AWESOME! I love how Skulker and the kids teamed up, and I really love Vlad and Danny's father son moments! I really like how they became close after such a horrible experience. I can see Vlad as a father figure for Danny. VLAD IS EPICALLY AWESOME! Stories like these just make me love Vlad! XD Hey um, is there gonna be a sequel? The way you wrote the ending has me wondering. And if you do plan on a sequel. I'm looking forward to it 100%! XD

I love all of your stories, and this was no exception! I think your writing is particularly spectacular in its integrity. You do not curse or make crude references, and I find that particularly respectable. Thank you again! Keep up the fantastic work!
