Dean would be a completely amazing father to anyone and was to Sammy too in many ways. I feel so terrible for him. Don't know if replacing sam with Ben is totally healthy but it seems to be helping some.
Love seeing this side of the character and you wrote it very well. Great job and if you had more to update with I'd love to see it.

Love this fic so far, poor Dean, losing Sammy is like losing a son, brother, and best friend all at once. Hope you decide to continue it someday.

I loved that your story touches on the fact that Dean's feelings for Sam probably do blur between Brother and son since Dean had to watch over and babysit his sibling for longer and under more intense circumstances than most brothers have.

I know that show has never really addressed that aspect of the reason their bond is so close or why Dean is so obsessed with Sam's safty all the time.

And that for the last three years the writers have deconstructed that bond only to try to build it back up to have them be on equal footing together. But that makes me feel cheated-ya know?

Yeah I want to see Dean and Sam be equally awesome as the best and tightest team the hunting profession has ever seen...but just only giving us that, as great as that is, will be to ignore the real story behind Dean's fanatic efforts to be the best big brother ever. Because he's also carrying the weight of being Sam's auxiliary parent too. And that makes Dean's character so much more poignant than even being the best brother ever.

It's so hard to find fanfiction that addresses this side of Dean and Sam's relationship: that Dean was in fact, Sam's parent as well as his brother. It's also hard to find it done *well*. You've done both, and it's wonderful. I am both charmed and heartbroken, both for Dean and what he's lost. the last line of this chapter, where Dean thinks he was a horrible parent to Sam is just ...

I hope you write more of this, and soon. As much as it breaks my heart to read it, it's everything I've always wished to read/see about Dean and Sam. Minus Sam, unfortunately. Thank you for such a lovely, emotional story.
