Just a note: you have conversations btw Tim and others and then remove the breathing tube just before the end of the story. You cannot talk while a breathing tube is in place unless you do sign language or write it out on a computer.

Just one thing I'm trying to understand that starts in chapter 4.

"Tim was, indeed, in worse shape. More of his face was padded in gauze, and he had a tube down his throat to aid in breathing. His eyes were reddened, and he said his vision was a little blurry. But he laughed about being happy on his painkillers, and he thanked them, sincerely, for coming."

If he was intubated, how was he talking? There is no talking with a tube down your throat. And the patient would most likely be heavily sedated so that they can't fight the very uncomfortable intrusion.

A mask however, would work. You don't need to be sedated and though it might be hard to be heard, you can certainly talk with one on. :)
