Not sure if you ever check your old stories for reviews. After reading the entire story, taking into account the difficult subject you’re addressing thought you did a stand up job. The horrific nature of the crime perpetrated on Steph by someone who had known Steph all their life, not forgetting their previous romantic entanglement, inflicted on her while the assailant was intoxicated unfortunately is more common than statistics account for. My personal opinion is the perpetrator got off lightly for his crime. I recognise this is fiction and the story wasn’t about seeking vengeance and more a story of Steph, Ranger, the Merry Men, her family and friends recovering from this crime. Your handling of this part of the story was done tactfully and realistically (though with a condensed time line). Having Ranger discover Steph immediately after the rape gave your readers a chance to realise that this one horrible crime doesn’t just affect the victim but also her loved ones and her community. Rape is about power and you ensured that Steph got hers back through dedicated hard work to ensure that it is not the only thing in her life. Thank you for such a delicate and tactful story.
