Oh Sulia...
purelyexuberant chapter 1 . 5/12/2013
Best fanfic I have read. The story was beautiful, but what captivated me was the way it was written. Neater, cleaner and more expressive than others, which sound like the author has carelessly typed a torrent of words for her pleasure without even bothering to phrase them properly like you did. Nice and short. I had a lot of goosebumps. Thank you.

OMG, this is just wonderful!

I love the characterization, and the thoughts/inner narration of Marvel, and the transformation he went through. All in just these short 1,854 words.

Keep it up!

Ahh! The cuteness! IT BURNS!

I like this story. I enjoy it when people flesh out the other Tributes. A real shame that they never got much characterisation in the books. Oh well.
Marvel was an interesting choice, as was the District 3 girl. They're both very sad characters.

Obiwanlivesforever pretty much said everything i wanted to say, thank you sharing a different side of the cocky side we are told so far from the books and fanfictions, this story really touched my heart!

such a beautiful story
kopycat101 chapter 1 . 3/1/2012
That was...So different than what I'd expected.

Marvel...I always thought Marvel was dumb and the usual Hunger Games pick, but he really was different in The Arena. He wasn't as bent on voicing his enjoyment of killing as he should be. He gave Rue a swift death instead of drawing it out.

This was really, really good.

i love how this story ties in with the stories of the tributes you've made up. its beautifully written and really showcases marvel's personality
Sallen chapter 1 . 11/24/2011
Absolutely amazing. Marvel has always been one of my favorites, but you gave me a whole different side to him. People often say that he's only bloodthirsty (Like they do with most Careers). But you gave Marvel a different perspective! And I loved every bit of it!

Ah ;o;

*does know what to say*
Obiwanlivesforever chapter 1 . 10/21/2011
This is truthfully one of the most beautiful and touching Hunger Games FanFictions I have ever read. Honestly, I've always been a little curious about Marvel, moreso than the other Careers. It's probably because he plays such a key role in the story but often comes off as one-dimensional in FanFics. Cato, Clove and Glimmer often get the sympathetic treatment, but it's rare that someone is brave enough to tackle Marvel, and for that I commend you.

Equally meaningful to me is how you've woven another rarely-heard-of character - the girl from District 3 - into his story. Being a huge D3 fan and supporter of the minor tributes, this was wonderful for me. Her backstory was so heartwrenching and almost makes me wonder if she was lucky to escape all that through death.

I'm impressed with how you handled Marvel's humanity. Instead of making him entirely sympathetic or entirely evil, you've gone for a beautiful blend. He's not exactly a good person, as you've said, but the moments when he felt pity and caring towards Sulia really touched my heart. The idea of a hopeless tribute asking a career to give them a quick death is truly creative and realistic in this scenario, and I was glad that Marvel agreed to it. This brings a whole new level to the scene in Game Over where the viewer simply notes that Sulia was stabbed by the boy from 1.

The way she haunted him, making him evaluate his own morality, giving him a bit of a conscience, was brilliantly done. I loved the notion at the end, that she was his one hope of redemption, and managed to save him from becoming a total monster. The ending was strangely happy for a Hunger Games FanFiction, which I found both refreshing and heartwarming. I know it sounds stupid to say this as they're both fictional characters but it honestly had me wishing they found peace in the afterlife.

All in all, a stunning job. Favorited!
