Reviews for Tales of the Spirit World: Motivation
Data Seeker chapter 1 . 8/1/2015
Hi

Nice fic.

The quality is good in many areas, good narration, interaction, dialog, suspense, drama, complexity and scope.

The basic plot is by all rights clever: the Painted Lady confronts the Lion Turtle and it turns out to be Koh in disguise.

You did their characterization very well.

The wholesome standards are high.

The language is clean.

Nothing is suggestively offensive.

No extreme violence or any other vile content.

As for the power to remove a bender's bending, I do agree the set up was cheap, though I have a soft spot for depowering as a plot device. As for the morality of the deed, debatable.

While I have my own preferences about bending removal, this is by all rights a great fic. God bless

this was intriguing as all your stories are

Oh, wow. O_O I agree, the whole "Spiritbending" thing came out of nowhere, and while apparently the Lion-Turtle showed up once or twice in pictures or something I never even noticed, it was just random and weird. But this is a rather brilliant idea to explain it that I really like! D

I'm not sure if what Aang did to Ozai is quite as bad as you interpret it to be-I think it messes with his "chi" or something, and after all execution is a pretty extreme punishment as well-but I can see how your idea makes sense too, so yeah, Aang can be pretty dark if we see it that way. And the idea that he does something like that to avoid doing something he DOES find immoral...deep.

Great work!

Awesome as always, Sylva. I'd actually love to see this continued. I do wonder what consequences you actually have planned. What thread was cut with Aang's spiritbending? What was the price? The Avatar State and, therefore, the incarnation cycle? W/e it is, clearly it will serve Koh's ends and create Chaos in the mortal realm again. Very cool.

I got the are book as well and was also surprised by the lack of Koh acknowledgment. They really just totally dropped him. *sigh*

On another note, I was happy to see Jian. :D *hugs her* And the way you did this, people didn't have to read fall of the blue spirit to understand who she was. Suppose they did to understand the blue demon face's significance to her, but still. Very cool. :)

I LOVE THIS! with my initial scream of delight over: this is fantastic. I must agree, I could rant for days about the easy-out Aang gets, and how much of a wimp he is and... well, I'll stop there ;)

Not only does this address THAT problem, it also fixes the problem you mentioned, about Koh claiming they'd meet again (though I must admit, I'd forgotten about that!) and it connects pieces of the spirit world... I think sometimes we forget that all these random spirits we are seeing have their own little world: they can interact with each other!

plus, um, I love the painted lady :D (I'm cosplaying Katara's version of her to the TLA premier :D)

OK that was really long! :D

great story!
