I like this story a lot, it's a cool concept.

As far as the Joe/Miley thing going on, I think that it actually works great into the whole story. You could let them get together, then Nick breaks up with Alex and finds himself more miserable than ever before. Then Joe would see it and being the good guy he actually is, he would let Miley go and then Niley reunites :D Yaaaay.

But it's your story haha :P

Anyways, I'm sure it will be good :)
