Reviews for Guilty Bonds
machievelli chapter 1 . 5/7/2013
Posted 15 October 2012, at and the Coruscant Entertainment Center in my The Critic's Two Cents. I was posting directly to the actual story threads, but my computer went down again in June of 2012 with a virus. Then in late November kotorfanmedia went down for reasons unknown, so I was stymied in my attempts to post the reviews. I had waited for it to revive, but you on deserve your reviews.

During the Mandalorian Wars: The concept of the shadow mass generator is created

The interesting point is that the author places the original onus for the concept not on Bao-Dur, but the Exile. While the Exile can be played as a tech, I can't see her becoming a front line General because of it. In real life such a General ends up attached to a secret research facility as far from combat as possible, because they are more important in a lab than in the front lines. Just one of the niggling things that bothered me about the basic story of TSL.

For example until the close approach of the Russians the scientists developing the V2 were in Peenemunde until the Allies found out where they were, and was relocated to Nordhausen when the Russians approached it.

However the idea that she would have been there when it was deployed was logical.
Knight Watcher chapter 30 . 8/31/2010
I always wondered what would have happen to Brianna in the Female Exile story line. In the male story, the other five die in the vanilla version of the game. Originally it was that Brianna have the option to stun (spare her sisters) or kill them out right.

So if Atris were true to the darkness that preyed upon her, she would have killed them all including the last.

In the case of the female story, regret suits Brianna by not following, but of course in the male story she was sent to spy on the Exile for Atris.

Over the course of the game, she would come to see that perhaps Atris' views of you are wrong. She could be trained as a Jedi or a Sith, either way, Atris and Kreia will both know what you have done.

They'll feel it through the Force.

Atris will say she is no longer one of us. And Kreia she'll simply mentally say betrayal.

In the male story, it'll be Brianna that takes Kreia back to Atris after the revelations at the Rebuilt Enclave on Dantooine.

In the female story, the five will be sent to recover Kreia.
Knight Watcher chapter 29 . 8/31/2010
Her Force Sensitivity is intensified by her birthright. Her strength will come from accepting her heritage even though it would mean breaking her oaths to her half sisters and more to Atris.

For Atris is the only one who could almost quality as a mother or mentor to the six of them.

It is saddening to discover that Atris has changed and become obsessed with preserving things of the past such as Sith Artifacts.

Nothing good comes from studying evil too closely.

For he who studies evil is studied by evil. - Solbor to Winn.

Above quote refers to a seventh season episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Knight Watcher chapter 28 . 8/31/2010
I think her name was actually spelled Brianna. Also by dialogue revelations when playing as the Male Exile, you learn that while all the Handmaidens are daughters of General Yusanis.

Brianna or the Last Handmaiden is the daughter born to him by Jedi Knight Arren Kae. She did not survive the Mandalorian Wars if I remember right.

She is one of the six who attend Atris, but the other five as well noticed do not like her or think her suited to the work that Atris has given them.

Still you have have captured the spirit of the Last Handmaiden by way of conveying how being different is far from easy when following the rituals and rites of the Echani.
Jayim Duinara chapter 27 . 8/19/2010
Hello,

You have a very entertaining writing style. However, there is a very, very large mistake in the last three chapters. G0-T0 is a droid, not a human. I'm not talking about the round black one that comes on your ship, that is just G0-T0's mindless lackey which he uses to speak through.

G0-T0 was the original droid that the Ithorians of Telos had commissioned to manage the restoration project. Something went wrong. His order was 'to ensure the success of the Republic's efforts' or some such vague thing like that. He started trying to compute how to make the entire Republic succeed. It was an impossible task and his programming broke. He ran away, and started the Exchange as a means of 'stabilizing' the galaxy.

He makes his black drones project a picture of a human because people are extremely unlikely to take a droid seriously. His name 'Goto' comes from his numeral designation 'G0-T0'. Sort of how 'Artoo Detoo' gets his name from 'R2-D2'.

If you are going Alternate Universe, this would be a good story for Goto, however.

Good writing,

The PreacherMan
Knight Watcher chapter 27 . 8/19/2010
Goto's/G0T0's behavior by degrees implied to me that he is a droid with a very organic dilemma in regards to his programming. He found 'himself' to be a very efficient criminal.

If you gain enough influence with him he admits to the deception, that he is in fact a droid, and the hologram everyone sees is just that. The dialogue he speaks he also claims belongs to holo-dramas, but often his choice of words reveals he is not quite organic either.

Further his covert activities on the Vertical City itself are all carried out by droids.

Vertical City is another name for Nar Shaddaa.
Knight Watcher chapter 26 . 8/19/2010
Reviews are motivating to a writer. Some of us are cool with just writing and not really hearing what others think of it. Though deep down we all like to read something about what we have written.

To give us a handle on how we are doing with established characters.

So Goto (G0T0) is slowly gaining an easiness with killing, not a surprise, everything else he has tried in the past hasn't really worked out.

No will take him seriously... at least not until he proves he in his own way is more a threat than a help.
Knight Watcher chapter 25 . 8/19/2010
I always thought of Goto or G0T0 as a machine who had a very human or organic reaction to that which he was assign to doing. He found it impossible to facilitate all of his directives.

Circumstances being what they were and are simply forced a decision upon him. He could not achieve successes without violating his programming.

Hence G0T0 becomes Goto... crime boss for the Exchange on Nar Shaddaa.

Still the origins you present for Goto is interesting as it bears out the idea that Goto lost all that mattered to him in the wars so how could he be qualified to help save anything or anyone.
Knight Watcher chapter 9 . 8/17/2010
"So you can read minds and feign death... who are you?"

That's the dialogue choice I use at the first conversation with Kreia. The first time I got to that moment I was freaked out when the body just got up in the morgue, at least until I her speak then I recognized it from the voice in the tank.

Most of the way that you gain party members are equally intriguing.

I recognized the true identity of Mandalore without him saying anything about his past. If you played or read anything about KOTOR, its the same voice actor for Canderous Ordo and Mandalore.

Because Canderous Ordo is now the Mandalore.
Knight Watcher chapter 8 . 8/17/2010
The mood brought on by the opening scene of KOTOR 2 is equal parts ominous and sinister. The Hawk badly damaged... hull breaches, carbon scoring, corpses (organic and droid) are strewn about within.

Almost nothing alive..yet so close to death at the same time. Everyone was expendable save for the Exile to Kreia.
Knight Watcher chapter 7 . 8/17/2010
What made Kreia a much more complex enemy than most is that she done much to teach you about yourself. Sure what she did led to countless deaths, but many of those people would have died anyway.

Does it make right? I don't know.

She spends most of the game in a gray area even after revealing her past as a deposed Sith Lord.

"To be united by hatred is a fragile alliance at best. There were disagreements and my word was not law."

That's more or less the sum of what happen between her, Sion, and Nihlius.

"There are acts through the Force for which there are no defenses."

She was overpowered and beaten by her former apprentice as well as whatever Nihlius was/is.

She even the scales by ending the remnants of the old Jedi Order and by eliminating her former allies among the Sith.
Knight Watcher chapter 6 . 8/17/2010
The dialogue between a Female Exile and Atton are far more sensual/sexual in nature. She knows he's checking her out.

So he's thought about killing her, but actually seeing her has him torn because she reminds him of someone else. More than one girl or woman is looking back at him when he sees her.

Most of the time I tend to think that in some ways she reminds him too much of the female Jedi who opened him to the Force in the past.

He couldn't understand why that woman gave up her own life for him, because of what he had done, but somehow that save brought him to the Exile eventually.
Knight Watcher chapter 5 . 8/17/2010
Atton certainly had a talent for pazaak and drinks among other things. He's also the one I image was Coorta's contact. Coorta is the leader of the miners that want to collect the bounty on the Exile. Only his plan gets skewered by HK-50 who was masquerading as the Maintenance Officer... well by impersonating his voice in order to hasten the battle between the miners.

The assassin droid didn't care how many had to die in order for him to 'terminate hostilities.'

"Don't tell me I'm going to jail again."

Yep Atton's not fond of cells or cages... he is used to be the one who captures or cages others.
Knight Watcher chapter 4 . 8/17/2010
"I killed her because I loved her."

Atton definitely became more interesting to me after he opens about his past. He wages war with the things he did while a member of the Assassins. I'm certain he recognized the uniforms of the assassins met aboard the Harbinger.

Because he used to be behind one of those masks or at least that's what I imagine when he talks about how he caught the unnamed female Jedi way back during the Jedi Civil War.

Its the same way he defaults into the Echani stance when in the Polar Academy on Telos. The Echani Handmaidens recognize it because its the very martial arts that they were taught.

Of course the way I imagined how Atton broke from the Sith was a bit bloody. Meaning the female Jedi expires before they reach Malachor and the ship they are on never makes it either.

Atton realizing what had happen between him and her... knows he can't go back to the way things were. The others aboard recognize the change in him so he can either take her place or kill them all in order to survive.

Its after that he makes his way to Nar Shaada for the first time. In time, his smuggling trade routes lead him to Peragus II where he ends up in the Force Cage... where the Exile finds him.
Knight Watcher chapter 3 . 8/10/2010
I decided to go back and reread the earlier three shots for the other characters before the ones you did on T3.

As for the Exile, its odd for a race of warriors to respect you when you pretty much caused the near end of the Mandalorians at Malachor. Still the Exile thought there was nothing else left to because the ambush failed.

They laid the bait, the Mandalorians took it, and ultimately it was like how to end this battle quickly instead of having a nearly one sided slaughter.

Instead with the activation of the MSG... it was death all around. How to survive that... its been repressed in some way unless you counter Kreia's notions early on that the Jedi aren't responsible for the Force severance.

That in fact you yourself did it to survive the onslaught of deaths and dying through the Force. Its been shown more than once in both comics and the films how Jedi react to deaths on an enormous scale. Still to be there when it happens is like facing death yourself.

Likewise to silence the Force within indefinitely was something Cade Skywalker does in the Legacy comics for the longest time by using death sticks.

Except for the Exile its more about being able to sleep... except its sleeping without remembering dreams or nightmares.
