Very good. Very in character. One of the best One shots ive read, out of all my fandoms. You know what its like, seeing the sprak leave their eyes, knowing tine is up, all too soon. And there comes a time when they know you have to let them go, and they say its ok. My moms 25 yr old Oldenburg gelding was put down this spring, he layed down and looked at the vet and just wouldn't get up. The spark had left awhile ago. And it was his time. Even even the greatest, kindest must leave at some point... all we can do is pray that we will see them again some day.

So many good horses over the years. They always tell you when they're ready and you have to give the vet the nod, but just once, wouldn't it be nice if one went like you had the Black go to his reward? Good story!

You've got a real talent here. I'm crying as I'm reviewing this story. Is was beautiful, honestly the best Black Stallion story I've ever read.

Well written and capable of dredging up the most painful of memories. Alec was lucky - he didn't have to stand there and give the nod to the vet who would kill his dearest friend...and you gave him 30 years. I wouldn't put down a horse unless he was having difficulties, but comes the day when freedom is the greatest gift you can give your dear friend. It's good that you showed that side of responsible horse ownership and the end result of loving a horse for that long. This is reality, all you who wish for a horse of your own. This comes with it.

I've been through it too. I had my own Black Stallion and he was the best friend I've ever had. I had 22 years with him and it's been almost 11 years without him,and I will miss him with every day the sun rises.

I'm sitting here wiping away the tearsfor both Alec and myself. It is a gift to be able to write to bring out this kind of emotion in people. Keep going with your writing. But now I must go and look at pictures of my Calypso when we were both young and life was good and we rode the wind together.

It's been a long time since I've read such a great-but for 'Death of the Silent Hero',I would have to say this one is one of the best stories.

Sad and touching. The way I always thought it was meant to happen, though. With that one final wonderful ride. Sigh.

That was really a good story. I usually just read and write Manga fanfictions, but I decided to look into the books too, and I'm glad I did. This story was excelent. I had a horse put down once too, it wasn't mine, but still special to me.

Please write more, you've got talent!
