at first i thought Lily could be annoying, talking about how stupid Potter is all the time. now i can see that Carrie is a bitch. What the hell?

First: I love you and this amazing story.

I always knew Carrie was a bitchy tart.

You know what should happen when James explains it all to her?

"Look, Lily, I just have to explain this. I know you hate me right now, but I need you to listen to me and not say anything until I'm done. You can make your own conclusions later, but please, let me explain my side of things."

Lily glared at him. "Fine, I'll listen. Be quick."

James sighed and ran his hands through his hair. "Up until the beginning of this year, you hated me. I would ask you out constantly, but you rejected me every time. Then, we found out that we were both Heads. We sort of became friends. You knew that I liked you, and I think you might have secretly liked me too, but at a party earlier this year, you got jealous that Carrie was flirting with me, so you went and kissed Sirius in a game of Spin the Bottle. I was really hurt and angry at both of you, so I tried to avoid you two for a while. This next part was told to me by Moony, so..."

"Just get on with it." Lily growled.

"Okay. So according to Moony, you realized that you loved me, and wanted to make me not mad at you anymore, so you started practicing to be on the Quidditch team as a beater to try and get closer to me. Then, the accident happened, and all that I could think about was that you were possibly dead and that I had been a bloody git and didn't apologize, and that you were so wonderful, and that I should never have gotten mad at you in the first place, and you could have never woken up, and mostly that I loved you and I didn't know how I could go on if you weren't there with me. Then when you woke up, I think Sirius saw a golden opportunity to get us together and...I just went along with it, because it was a dream come true. I was actually working up the courage to tell you when Carrie blurted it all out. Lily, I'm so, so sorry. And I could understand if you never wanted to see me ever again. I'm horrible."

Lily sat there in silence for a bit, obviously thinking everything through. "James," she said, a bit hesitantly, "When I first woke up, and you were in the room, all that I could think about was you, and how I felt when you smiled at me. I wanted you to be with me. But now...I think that I just need some time to think."

James nodded sadly and stood to go. "I'm so sorry, Lily."
