Gosh, I'm feeling a rush of nostalgia reading this story again. Sonic 3 and Knuckles was one of my favorite games and you have such a Tolkien esque description to your stories and that I loved the interactions between Sonic and Tails, Metal Sonic has an interesting personality.

Knuckles' POV chapters were a highlight for me and it added such a layer of depth to the story.

I remember reading this story years ago on your site. Man I loved it then and I'm just glad to have found it again. You have the writing style of Tolkien.

Oi! I was just thinking last night that many of your descriptions are almost Tolkien-esque in their vividness and beauty, but to see a direct reference to one of my favorite scenes in The Two Towers just about had me rolling on the floor, unable to breathe for laughing. I thought for sure Knuckles would say the ent-wine was from some special trees somewhere.

But by and large, what I've read so far of your stories has been creative and intriguing. You always have interesting plot twists, and the characters are so real that they truly come to life with their individuality intact. I especially love your use of personification and synesthesia in descriptions, and only rarely does it feel like too much. You tend to strike the perfect balance between background and action so that just when it feels I'm ready to skip a paragraph to get to the good part, something happens.

There is only one other author here on FF-dot-net that I've found whose writing is on par with yours, and that's Qoheleth. I'm looking forward to finishing this series and am definitely taking notes as I read.

I read this story years ago and remember it fondly for how interesting it was in a sea of less than stellar fan fiction. I read it again for the sake of nostalgia and I have to say that it's still head and shoulders above most other fanfics on this site.

That said I felt I had to nitpick that Slasher honestly seems like a Mary Sue and with how her virtual omnipresence, her array of abilities that surpass those of the main characters, and how the main characters all rely on her to save them when they are over their heads is a bit annoying. It makes her more of a crutch than a character and causes the reader to question why SLASHER isn't the one doing all the hero work herself if she's so much more skilled than Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. I think you're a good enough writer that you could have written this without adding in a hero who saves the heroes all the time. I appreciated that you backed off on that trait about halfway in to some degree and showed a glimpse of her humanity at the end.

Regrettably the biggest problem with this story for me was Knuckles. I know that in the games and other media he is first introduced as naive enough to fall for Robotnik's lies, but here it was taken to an extreme that jarred me out of the experience more than once. It was hard to get past the fact that Knuckles trusted Robotnik with his secrets with so little reasoning even though his father had warned him that Robotnik was evil, there were mountains of evidence in front of him, and Knuckles had already met Sonic and had a good rapport with the hedgehog. My suspension of disbelief grew more strained as Knuckles kept choosing Robotnik's side for the thinnest of reasons. I had a hard time swallowing his fluctuations between the role of reluctant buddy following a trusted pal through hell and high water regardless of his guilt for such acts, and the behavior of homicidal sociopath. I was relieved when that roller coaster of mood swings and gullibility finally ended.

But despite how glaring these flaws are they fortunately do not outshine the story itself as a whole. This story is solid and, dare I say it, a classic among Sonic fanfics. You run the readers through the levels of Sonic 3 & Knuckles with as much excitement as playing the games, even maintaining their order in a plausible fashion. I kept thinking back to playing these levels on my Genesis more than once and listened to the level themes when reading certain chapters. You captured the wonderful feel of the games and a reader can really tell that you had a lot of fun making this adaptation. Your enjoyment of the source material and desire to pay it a fitting tribute shows and I think that's why it's still beloved by many despite how many years have passed and how Sonic has changed in that time.

The interaction between Sonic and Tails is excellent. You can really get a feel that they depend on each other and are used to doing battle with the evil doctor Robotnik. Their rapport is interesting to read and the fact that they keep going to stop Robotnik and save the floating island despite how battered and weary they become helps them shine as the heroes they are.

Metal Sonic's personality as also intriguing. He's lot more interesting than a blank-faced robot that simply mimics Sonic and obeys Robotnik's orders mindlessly. The fact that he couldn't even SAY Sonic's name and slurs his "S"s were also nice touches.

Your take on the Chaos Emeralds, Super Emeralds, and the like is very interesting. The mechanics of how Angel Island works in a number of ways is also a nice touch. The little details you added to enhance Sonic's world make the story more believable and make me curious about how they hold up when your later stories integrate more of the games with their differing canons. Not to mention how you plan to utilize the characters from SatAM. I could already see a touch of your take on its canon and I liked your explanation for Robotnik's Roboticized arm and the almost perverse interest Metal Sonic had about the subject.

Overall I think that this fan fiction is a good one and it holds up well despite its age. I look forward to reading the next in the series.

Yeah i have to agree with a lot of other people around here, and I have read this story of your's at other websites (such as your own and Sonic HQ (at least I think that was the website) and I saw that you split the story into chapters at those websites. I don't get why you wouldn't do the same for this place considering its the most famous Fanfiction website and I think it allows as many chapters as you like to put. But anyways I and others don't have the time to read the entire Sonic 3 portion in one page added with the first two zones of Sonic & Knuckles. I actually prefered when you divided the chapters by the zones at the other websites.

As for the story itself I enjoyed it. Though I know you won't do the Knuckles story as its hardly any different from Sonic's in terms of how the zones and bosses play out.

Anyways I do suggest you divide this into chapters like you have for the other websites its just I and others can't even read the first chapter in just one sitting (well not all the time anyway) and its not like My memory has a save feature like the game does to show Me where I left off so thats another reason. Sorry just a little advice as it is pretty long.

Anyways I heard Sonic & Knuckles is out on Wii VC and retains its lock on features so long as you have the games the feature worked with on VC as well, well that makes two systems I know that the game has been released on but I'm unsure about Playstation network but I wouldn't doubt it. I just hope that the Wii version saves lock-on games like Sonic 3 & Knuckles progress when your in the middle of a zone (I mean like being in the middle of act 2 going to the Wii menu going back to play Sonic 3 & Knuckles and continuing where you left off in act 2, its because I like seeing how high the score goes up as you progress through the game).

I've only just had a look on this, today, and ws greeted by a beautifully writtne piece of work. There's so much passion, and excitement in this, it fills the howle world.

You've had me one my seat in fear and excitment, laughing in hysterics, and smiling a lot too, getting angry at Knux, and awwing at Tails for his cuteness and giving me pride and passion for Sonic. I cried when I realzied his hadns were robotized.

But becasue the way you wrote it, described it, was so damn moving, I felt as if i were the one, r at leats watching it. The way you made sonic sound, hurt, ut the fake optimisium, was brilliant. In all honesty that was my favourite part, because of the wya it was writen.

There was so much of everything in this, I was compleed to stay rigid and rid, the occasional scroll of the mouse.

I'm going to add this to my C2 of official story adaptations, despite it being Archie/SatAM based.

I'm not really a fan of Archie/SatAM so I didn't read it all, but I can tell you've put a lot of work into this and just a few lines of this shows how amazing you are with description.

I know it's hard to flesh out a story from a game that barely had any to begin with.

Very good story. I liked it, except you should have split the chapters up, so that each chapter was individual. I was having to write down which chapter I ended at, otherwise I would have just gone and selected the one I was on. Other then that, though, VERY good story. I liked it, and I wish you would have written one for both Sonic 1 and Sonic 2, especially Sonic 2, caus that's my favorite.

wow. i not a big fan of the new sonic, but i though i couldlook and see if any stories where written for the old one - and wow. i really like this. the ones i have read so far were awful, but this is one of the best stories i've read for any title. it's awsome! i also liked how you explain pessimists and optimists. that was cool.

Well, I can easily say this is probably one of the best (Top 5) of all the stories I have read on (though that's not saying much, since I've read so few). A great fanfic, and I'm too lazy to go back and read all of it again (almost 100,0 words), and I don't remember any plot holes anyways.

Though I will point out one thing: It's not that Tails doesn't like going Super. Ever since S3&K, he and Knuckles have NEVER gone Super again. Knuckles only mentioned to Sonic his Super form on the A.R.K. because he could use the CHAOS Emeralds, while Tails needed the Super ones. So it's not that he doesn't want to, it's that he is constantly denied the right to (or he's too busy with his machines like Knukcles is with the Master Emerald). And since Sonic is never preoccupied, he can go Super a lot.

But, hey, you don't have to make it fit the gamnes and comics and all PERFECTLY, your doing well, with your own little Sonic Universe.
